W. K.: Food: 5/5

Brandon Yung: Honestly pretty impressed with this place. The name of the restaurant was a bit off putting but I’m happy to say the food surpassed my expectations. We got the toro roll, Kobe beef ramen, agedashi tofu and edamame - everything was perfect and reasonably priced! I couldn’t find anything critical to say about any of the dishes honestly and I eat at Japanese restaurants very often. I’d easily come here again. Definitely recommend the Kobe beef ramen.

Angela Dao: Wow, can’t believe i haven’t heard of this place! The duck ramen was some of the best ramen I’ve had in the states. We also ordered a few rolls and appetizers - the raw fish being super fresh and roll combinations were delicious and unique.Easy parking too! Definitely stop by, you might add it to your sushi rotation.

dominic galletti: Best in San Francisco!

Darius Bahgeri: One authentic Japanese place, very friendly staff

Kevin Onorato: Wow, I have been eating sushi for 35 years and this is the third place where I was ever truly surprised and delighted. While I am not a real officionado I can say for certain that all the boxes got a check mark. Food, atmosphere, and staff were not just wonderful but really a cut above my expectations. I’ve never had makerel that was so mild but still flavorful. We had a type of poke salad with mixed fish and mixed greens and pickled veg that was fantastic. The atmosphere, the ambiance, the art, the lighting, the architecture is pretty darn cool as somebody found a way to integrate the dated and rustic concrete building which was likely a auto garage or something back in the day, with a sweet room modern vibe. The caterpillar roll looked like a damn caterpillar and the dynamite roll was the best I’ve had. I hope I’m not being dramatic. My sushi experiences range from Monterey, Seaside, Marin, SF, Santa Cruz, and Portland. Never been to Japan but after this sushi I ran home and started to research trips to Japan as I was inspired.

Michaela Nee: Truly a hidden gem - amazing, amazing food, kind staff and honestly it’s just really beautifully decorated! This is our favorite place to take friends and quickly became a go-to.Vegetarian options: 2 veggie sushi rolls are available on the menu

Alex: I'd give this place a 4.5 star if Google allowed me. I came by with a coworker for dinner this past Friday. We arrived at the restaurant a little after 6pm, and were a little surprised that the restaurant was fully empty. It was a rainy day, so that may have contributed. We got seated and ordered some miso soup, edamame, hot sake, the serious nigiri combination platter, and a black & white roll. The miso was alright, a tiny bit light on taste. The edamame was well boiled, with a generous sprinkling of salt on top. The nigiri platter contained 12 pieces, and the fish all tasted fresh. The roll was also well made, with Yellowtail and tempura shrimp.Overall, this was a nice little restaurant if you want a low key and quiet dinner, with good quality fish and well made rolls.

JESS MESINO: I loved this restaurant, the food was super delicious, you can see the quality of their products, it has a very good menu and above all excellent flavors, the place is average although you could tell that they were full of work because it was super full, but the staff, however Very friendly, very polite and excellent service I would definitely return.

John L (DefaultUser): Okazu ya has been around for decades. While it has been a number of years since the last time I visited, it remains as solid as I remember. This truly is a neighborhood go-to for Japanese bento.

Neal: My go-to sushi spot for delivery. Great quality rolls and appetizers.

Anson Tan: . We did not have any special requests, so that was not a problem for us. Apart from that, the food was great and the service was attentive. Am usually not a huge fan of grilled squid, but the squid here was tender and nicely charred. The tempura also came with a large serving of radish. The sashimi tasted fresh and they used real wasabi with some dishes. Highly recommend for a casual meal.

Jalene Wegner: This is my first time in San Francisco. Just got here yesterday and we decide to just do some adventurous exploring on foot with no maps and no specific places. We saw a sushi sign at a little place and decided to stop. We had no idea we had happened upon what we would later consider one of the best dining experiences we've had in a long time. Service was quick. The food was divine and the staff were amazing. I had the sweet potato rolls; the sweet potato was delicately breaded, very moist and the perfect temperature. One sip of the tea took me back to a trip I took to Japan 20 years ago. My friend had the vegetable Ramen. The broth was perfectly balanced, and the vegetables and noodles fresh and delicious. This is an absolute gem of a find and I would highly recommend.

kristopher seydel: Love this place. Got some work done over sushi and sake. Great price, flavor, and amazing staff.

Juanita Lee: .Sometimes my partner and I go crazy and will order a bunch of nigiri

Lupe Ramirez: Staff could have been friendlier

Gabrielle Dillon: My partner and I have been coming to Arashi for years now. It’s nice inside, good service, and their special rolls are so tasty!

Sharon W: . There was also complimentary edamame, which was sweet and savory and softer than al dente - I really enjoyed it.I could've shared this meal with another human of average appetite. I was already full after the California roll - look at how much crab meat is in there! But I took my time and ate the sashimi sans rice. Their rice is too wet and could use a little more flavor - that's the only reason I couldn't give them 5 stars for the food. Otherwise, the fish was fresh and bountiful!I'd "see you tomorrow" if I weren't so full!

John Gravener: . My husband, who is Japanese, swears by this place. He can't get enough of their sushi, much to the dismay of my wallet, but hey, gotta keep him happy. I have to say that the beef dishes are pretty good, not cheap cuts of meat that some places use.Two notes: the younger guy needs to wear his mask over his nose while he prepares the food, and they always forget to include my gyoza!!! Since I live on the other side of the park, in the Outer Richmond, I am not driving back. Hopefully, they will throw in some gyoza when we return.

Jordan Locke: awesome yummy sushi

CLou S: Nice, quiet, unassuming sushi place in the Sunset. It was exactly what we were lookimg for after a long day - good sushi! My only complaint is the two-person tables were way to close to each other and my daughter and I were right next to two other people and basically in their discussion. The two tables were not even 6 inches apart. The place was not full, it was a Weds night so it would have been better to seat us at a different table.

S Wong: I had Hokkaido Chirashi at this restaurant. The seafood in the Chirashi bowl consisted of chopped scallop, a shrimp, salmon etc. Overall they were fresh. I was particularly impressed by the side items including the pickled vegetables, pickled salmon, and the tempura pumpkin slice, which was very delicious. This dish was a little bit pricy. Given the price, I expected more seafood in the Chirashi bowl.

Zhen Tang: Their Una Ten Donburi is incredibly delicious! The menu with pictures makes dining in super convenient. The waitress, a sweet lady, recommended the Una Ten Donburi, and I loved it! The eel melts in your mouth, and the tempura fried shrimp is so crispy, like biting into a croissant! Mixing the onsen egg into the rice doubles the deliciousness! The house salad was a bit salty, so I didn't finish it, but overall, it was a satisfying meal. Definitely recommend it to friends!

William “Bill” Owen: CLOSED PERMANENTLYWe planned to dine here on Saturday 25 June 2022. Another group from the East Bay, who arrived when we did, said that this was their favorite sushi restaurant in San Francisco so my 5* rating is based on that group's rave reviews of Kaisen.Sadly, we were all greeted by a letter posted on the door explaining that Kaiser Sushi CLOSED PERMANENTLY on 21 June as they were unable to agree with their landlord on the terms of a 10-year lease.

Camila Vigdor: which makes dining in-person at sushi shio special.

Jean Tsou: We came here during lunch time. Tried 5 pcs and 8 pcs nigiri set. Each nigiri was well seasoned. It’s average quality not really impressed. However, salmon skin and okura dish it’s truly special. Refreshing and tasted just the right amount of seasoning. They offer variety of sake to choose from as well.Down side, not much of service but they added 20% tips automatically at the bill during lunch time. I truly think this is over priced.

Edison Huang: We came here for the handroll tasting but their website hasn't been updated.. so we ended up doing their regular testing instead. There were some interesting options thrown in. The nigiris felt a little short but we were happy they included uni. The restaurant is small so I recommend making a reservation so you're not stuck with their outdoor seating in the back.20% gratuity is automatically added bringing the total to $234.. not a terrible price given the area.. but definitely not the best value.Big shout-out to Josh who held on to the credit card I left behind!

Avishay Tal: Recommended dishes Yuzu Panna Cotta

toofat zh: Updated: The owner of the restaurant reached out with great manner and professional attitude, updating the review based on thatSuper disappointed. We had high hopes for the Valentine's Day dinner and we booked our reservation at 9:30pm a month ago. Arrived at the restaurant and found there were 10 people in front of us, and they all have reservations! Apparently the restaurant is very overbooked for today! WHY YOU HAVE THE RESERVATION SYSTEM IF YOU CAN'T MAKE SURE GUESTS CAN BE SEATED.The mood for the night has been ruined, let alone we spent 20+ minutes trying to find a parking spot on a rainy night!!!All I hope is they can refund my money back

Orlando Morales: I really like this sushi restaurant, it has a good location on one of the main avenues of San Francisco such as Valencia St. It does not have parking but if you are lucky you can park on the street, the place is very nice, it has that vibe of a modern restaurant and cozy, the service is pleasant but they can improve it for a better experience, it is an expensive restaurant if I compare it with other sushi restaurants but each dish is worth it, they are very well prepared, if you order takeout you should know that it will take a while

Ardo Kusuma: , basically it comes with some uni, Ikura, and some sashimi on a bed of sushi rice. It came with some kind of bamboo looking box as well. Don't know whether it's just plastic that looks like bamboo or real bamboo. Though the 2nd time I got the same item for delivery, it shows up in some kind of plastic container instead. Maybe cutting cost? Anyway, not as "presentable" as before. Then for dining in for dinner, we got some hand rolls, only hand rolls. And it was, quite disappointing. Like, all the hand rolls, all I could taste was just their cured cucumber. Whatever you get, the cured cucumber will take over the taste. And the seaweed that they use is also soggy, not crispy like specialized hand rolls restaurants.

Joe S: . The prices seemed a tad high to me, but I would go back again.Wheelchair accessibility: There are 2-4 small tables with freestanding chairs right inside the door that are wheelchair accessible. Beyond that requires going up about 4 stairs to access the remaining seating.

Scarlet Newman: I went for dinner early on a Saturday. We arrived when they opened and we were warmly greeted by the chef/waiter.I really liked the more old fashioned approach with no super expensive Omakase options. There were 3 of us and we ordered all our favorite nigiris and rolls accompanied by hot sake. All the fish selections were very fresh and generously cut. We ate until fully satiated and finished off dinner with a refreshing orange and another carafe of sake on the house. If I lived in the neighborhood I would be here weekly. They also have an extensive selection of cooked dishes which I am looking forward to trying

Kathryn Sellman: I made a reservation at Tanuki after walking by many times and loving the cozy atmosphere. The chef greets everyone as they enter and was so warm. My parents were visiting, and none of us had much experience with sushi. His wife was our waitress and very kindly guided us through the menu. We ordered what she suggested, and ate every morsel. Food was so fresh and delicious. My parents talked about that meal the rest the trip. Will definitely be back.

Alli McDermott: The best local sushi spot for a casual karage plate and rolls made by the one and only sushi chef and served by his lovely family.
