Tom Praisan: Japanese market with fresh Japanese Bento and sushi. I’m a regular fan of their 20% off Bento, tasted authentic with a decent amount of grilled tuna chunk on top.

Matus Kopalko: Authentic japanese style supermarket. Go to the very back - theres the best sushi chunks there.

Bridget Sullivan: Really good selection of fresh and packaged ingredients. great local market

Grace Lin: Such a cute space with delicious food! Especially love the snacks!

Liz K: Imported Japanese products

Anna Valadao: Lots of Japanese food. They helped me find what I wanted.

Div Manickam: Amazing products and reasonable prices ... From black sesame to sweet rice snacks

Richard Messer: Awesome sushi selection with great prices

Sylvia Mok: Small but carried lots of prepackaged sushi, bento, sashimi...

Jeff Ho: left. Excellent shrimp chips selection as well as other things like packaged ramen and alcohol. They don't have the Strong Zero 9% alcoholic drinks that I like though. I haven't been able to find that here in America.

Jade Pouncy-Beecher: Mu favorite place to visit when I am in town.

John Martin-Rutherford: Amazing variety of wonderful things. My mind was racing!!!

Edward Lee: but like levels above The Handroll Project. Anyone that says Handroll Project is better, is more attracted to flashy novel ingredients than a focus on taste.

Isaiah Jackson: Cool, low-key concept with a great vibe. Handrolls come hot and fresh and the experience of one handroll at a time makes for a great time. Not for filling up to be super full but for enjoying time with friends over great small bites

Claudia K M: Saru Handroll provided a delightful dining experience with an array of handroll sushi options, including Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp Tempura, and Cucumber & Plum. The miso soup, edamame, and hot buckwheat tea complemented the meal perfectly in a stylish, modern setting.Noteworthy were the pre-meal wet tissue towels, a thoughtful touch for cleaning our hands after savoring the handroll sushi. However, it’s important to note that the set menu did not allow for substitutions. Minus one star off - as the sets have crab and shrimp; no sub-options available for people with seafood allergies.Despite this, Saru Handroll proved to be a charming spot suitable for various occasions, whether it’s a date night, girls’ night, or gathering with friends and family. I recommend it for both the flavors and the ambiance.

Melissa Dee: and we had a nice quick quiet dinner. The yellowtail was notable but everything was delicious.Pre-meal we were given hot hand towels and payment was quick and easy.

Fuline Lite: I used to love coming here as kid. I loved their blueberry mochi and their flavors, usually ones not typically found at the store. I'm gonna miss them. They were usually the only quiet place during the afternoon bustle of J-town. Too bad it took them onto their retirement for people to finally show up like they used to ask. It was all really good all these years, sad yet really happy for them. Congratulations for 115 years in business.

C: Day 1 we couldn't get any, day 2 we were there at 7am and we go to the doors at 1230pm. Please expect a 5 hour wait and if you lined up after 8am, your chances are slim. Is it worth it, eff yes! This is a staple, a masterpiece, true genius. They close March 31 and I'm broken hearted but wish them a lovely retirement.Your mochi lives on in our hearts.

Punkie Nelson: I have been to your store many times with my parents when I was young. When my parents got older we would drive them to get our favorites—manju and an pan—and always something extra. After my parents passed away, I continued to get to Benkyodo’s whenever I could. It’s sad for me to realize that today would be my last visit and purchase. I will truly miss you, but at the same time, I sincerely wish you a long and happy retirement! You deserve it!💕🐸💕

Souriya Hounthavong: If you know you know hands down this is one of the best mochi spots in Japan town. After 115 years of detecting their love into each delightful mochi ball packed full of traditional and fresh seasonal ingredients. It's sad to say they are finally closing their doors. Hopefully one day we'll be lucky enough that they'll find a family member who is honorable to carry on their century-old family tradition once more.🤞In till then may their legacy live on! Cheers! Happy retirement Benkoyo-do✌

Stephen Inoue: Go NOW. Last day is March 31, 2020. Sad day for SF Japantown.

Amy Chen: Sad to see this place close and wish them the best on their retirement! For anyone looking to make a trip before they close at the end of this month, try to make it there early! We showed up at 8:30 and the line was almost to the end of the block. Ended up getting to the front of the line at ~12:30, and then placed an order to pick up at 1:00pm

Megan Lee: . If you go on a Friday or Saturday, plan to be there before 7:30 AM

Mei Fu Lee: . You constantly see them cycling trays of mochi. They limited 3 of each fruit mochi but you can get as many of the other types. I tried to order at least two of each they had. The fruit

Kevin Geng: are $2 each, and the rest are $1.65 each, from what I can tell. The selection varies based on the time of day.

Brian Adam: I have to give the lines 5 stars out of 5. I came here on 2/18/22, and it was impeccable. The line went out past the Nihonmachi Little Friends and slowly creeped up the street.Famously, since Benkyodo is retiring, you will hear people remark that it is closing forever very soon, and that the lines are always very long, or asking whether this is the line for the mochi, or whether it is worth it.I think the line got shorter from people quitting faster than people were actually served. What's that all about? After an hour of waiting like a chump, the staff said they wouldn't have anymore left for us.I came back on Saturday morning 2/19/22, and the line went even farther --- double the length of what it was the previous day.To quote the staff: "The lines are always terrible on Friday and Saturday. Come on the weekday."

SF2TOKYO: Best Mochi outside of Japan. It's too bad it's closing down.

Danielle O: Good spot. Food a four, service and ambiance a five. I'll be sad when it's gone. Best mochi I've had since LA and Japan.

Alex: I'd give this place a 4.5 star if Google allowed me. I came by with a coworker for dinner this past Friday. We arrived at the restaurant a little after 6pm, and were a little surprised that the restaurant was fully empty. It was a rainy day, so that may have contributed. We got seated and ordered some miso soup, edamame, hot sake, the serious nigiri combination platter, and a black & white roll. The miso was alright, a tiny bit light on taste. The edamame was well boiled, with a generous sprinkling of salt on top. The nigiri platter contained 12 pieces, and the fish all tasted fresh. The roll was also well made, with Yellowtail and tempura shrimp.Overall, this was a nice little restaurant if you want a low key and quiet dinner, with good quality fish and well made rolls.

Nina Gao: . Selection features many classic Japanese flavors using local ingredients.Combinations vary or you can pick out items à la carte, but everything is worth it and delicious. We got combos and added items to have a feast that did not break the bank. Our meals easily could have cost $30.I highly recommend the agedashi tofu

Ella B.: The options are almost overwhelming, but everything I had was delicious. You can’t go wrong with any of those choices. I had the hijiki salad, carrot and ginger soup, potato croquettes, and pork tonkatsu. There was a long line at lunch time, but it moves fast. The portions you receive are very generous. I’d love to come back and try more things.

Div Manickam: This is my first time at delica and I tried the salmon rice ball and the spicy tuna tempura.I enjoyed the spicy tuna tempura.

Jenn Lee: gyudon is great!

B A: i'm transported back to japan riding the shinkansen and eating a bento when i eat their food

Jeremy H: is the price. It was about $180 for 3 people. That's a bit steep in my opinion. It's a great place with great quality food and stellar service. The chery blossom roll is really good, absolutely gorgeous, and inventive in its presentation! Otoro is just little pricey overall. You will like this place!

Cesar Cancino: Excellent sushi! Wonderful staff and very nice atmosphere.

Jaclyn C: The atmosphere is extremely elegant, the fish is high quality and well prepared and presented. I have been to over 30 sushi restaurants in the city of SF and Otoro Sushi is literally the best quality sushi experience you can get for the price. The service is always pleasant. I cannot compliment this restaurant enough.Vegetarian options: The vegetarian options are on par in quality and artisanal skill with the fish dishes. One of the only places where the vegetarian rolls feel like a real consideration rather than an afterthought. I take all my vegetarian friends here. The futomaki and the pickles are a highlight. I genuinely get the futomaki over fish rolls sometimes.

Lilian Vo: Such a lovely spot. My partner and I came here before a concert with a reservation. It wasn’t too busy on a Monday evening. We got carried away and ordered so much. Really decent prices and quality food. Karaage was crispy. Tempura was light. Sushi tasted fresh. Treated ourselves to some otoro 🤠Would come back!

Ryan Chua: I had a wonderful time celebrating my birthday with my husband at this restaurant. We got seated when we got there and ordered our bottle of sake. They had a small selection but we asked for a recommendation since we aren't familiar with sake. The bottle they offered was perfect for what we wanted. Each dish was fresh and flavorful. By the end they asked if we wanted anything ala cart but the omakase we chose was plenty enough. Would recommend coming here for a date.

喵中原一匹貓: When in San Francisco, "Oma San Francisco Station" stands out as a must-visit sushi restaurant. The freshness of their fish, coupled with a friendly and attentive staff, ensures a delightful dining experience. The ambiance strikes a perfect balance between cozy and stylish, setting the stage for a memorable meal. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or a first-timer, Oma San Francisco Station guarantees an unforgettable sushi journey.

Joey Edwards: This sushi experience exceeded all my expectations. Without a doubt, it stands as some of the best sushi I've ever had in the United States. What truly set it apart was the impeccable freshness of the fish, consistently served at the perfect temperature. Nestled in a cozy, intimate setting with just six seats, it offered an intimate dining experience that made it even more special. The pricing, considering the quality, was surprisingly reasonable. Though we opted for the middle-tier menu, in hindsight, I regret not going for the top-tier option, as it must have been an even more exceptional culinary journey. If you have a passion for exquisitely fresh fish, this place is an absolute must-visit.

Andrew Howard: Our server Namtan was probably the best server I've ever had. She was so inviting. She listened to our special needs and catered carefully to us. She also steered us in the direction of incredible options that were so rich and delicious. Highly recommend the Toro Toro nigiri! Love!Dietary restrictions: Our server was exceptional at catering to dietary restrictions. If you have restrictions, ask for Namtan. She is the best!

Steve Rotzin: I don't know what to say here. This was a completely unexpected joy to stumble into. My daughter and her friends from law school stumble here to have some sushi, and the next thing I know, I am getting texts about how good it is. We head over a week later to try it, and WOW, simply fantastic sushi, wagyu satays, tempura style chicken, miso soup, and a wait staff that is like family. The SF Food Scene is what "An explorable feast"? But Ace stands out as one of the biggest surprises we've encountered. We will be returning.

Jamie Ginsberg: and the Garden Roll. Request the Avocado roll inside out! Pro tip: Happy Hour has legit deals and Bingo!!! The fries are in the picture because, they are delicious.

Fresher Dude: Went here twice during our week-long stay in San Francisco because the sushi was so delicious.Staff very friendly, but a bit lazy. But I don't think it's a bad thing as long as the food is good and that's it.

Alyssa Atencio: This has been the greatest customer service I have ever had! They were so accommodating. They were busy and my group came in with seven people, they had no seating and it was cold outside, they turned on a bunch of heaters just for us and set a whole table in the outside seating area. Once it started raining, they made a way to seat us inside while having orders and being busy. Out of this world service!!

Joshua Szepietowski: The BEST fresh sushi.

Makena Kong: This is a great place to get dinner before hitting your favorite bars on Polk. They had the freshest, tastiest sashimi! We got the Spoon Set A, I dont even know what 4 fishes they were but they were all great. Even my friend who doesnt particularly like slimy things enjoyed them. We also got the monkfish liver, toro handrolls, victoria secret roll and the spicy tuna roll.Plus, the waitress was so nice - they were fine with accomadating no cucumbers in our rolls. We came on a rainy Saturday evening so there was about a 5-10 minute wait to get seated - if you add your name to the waitlist on yelp beforehand I'm sure you wouldn't have to wait.

Jason Ross: Ozumo was a fantastic dining experience. Definitely pricey, but 💯 worth it. Great food, great atmosphere, and service.Kid-friendliness: I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for kids younger than tweens, because the food is unlikely to appeal to them.

Cho Lee: Ozumo is an exceptional restaurant that offers the best Japanese dining experience in San Francisco. If I were to describe my impression in one word, it would be "amazing."First and foremost, I must mention the quality of the food highly. The dishes I ordered were made with fresh ingredients and prepared using exquisite cooking techniques. The sushi, in particular, stood out with its remarkable freshness and deliciousness. I recommend the fatty tuna nigiri and the tempura shrimp.Furthermore, the service at Ozumo is outstanding. The staff is incredibly friendly and provided us with attentive hospitality tailored to our needs. They took the time to explain the dishes and offered suggestions for sake pairings. The ambiance of the restaurant is also exceptional. Alice Hou: and green onions added a delightful crunch and tanginess.2. Mini Udon: The mini udon was a simple yet comforting bowl of goodness. The clear broth was light and soothing, and the chewy noodles were a testament to traditional udon craftsmanship.I also tried the Mentai Cream Sauce Udon. This signature dish is a departure from the ordinary.3. Mentai Cream Sauce: Imagine a creamy, umami-packed sauce infused with seasoned cod roe. It's bold, unexpected, and utterly addictive. The parmesan cheese adds richness, while the green onions and kaiware sprouts provide a fresh contrast. And those tempura bits add crunch and depth to every bite.

So Trinh: udon mugizo, hands down best udon i've ever had! forgot what it was called, maybe mentai cream sauce udon? had cod roe, parmesan, green onions, crunchy tempura bits and seaweed? it looked good with all the colors, but was tasty AF!!!! light flavor i cannot describe??? with all the mouth feels, crunchiness of the tempura bits, and the soft chewy udon noodles. so hard to describe. the bowl looked like a big plate. after my first bite, it was so good, i thought ugh this isn't enough food. i was wrong it was the perfect amount. more on this later.friends had the salmon spinach udon, i would say equally delicious!! i only had a little taste of this. need to go back for that!kids had donburi, it came with a small bowl of udon. dunno what those guys were thinking, but they missed out. kids didn't eat their udon noodles so i took those noods and put them into the leftover sauce from my udon...haha had to undo the belt a lil.so good. coming back. photos don't do it justice. fave. udon. place.

Ly: I tried the Tonkotsu Udon and it was so delicious! The noodles have the perfect consistency. My friend ordered the Mentai Cream Sauce Udon and it was so creamy and delicious too.We also got the tempura which was perfectly crispy and didn’t feel too oily. Can’t wait to go back and try other things on the menu.

Zamir Mamytov: udon, and the delightful balance of sweet broth and savory meat paired perfectly with the hearty noodles and egg. It was truly delicious! While the ambiance started off serene, it gradually became livelier as we arrived before the dinner rush. Additionally, the prices were quite reasonable compared to other spots in SF.Overall, I'm grateful that this establishment persevered through COVID! It's heartening to witness its success and to find that the food is just as delightful as ever :

Kishore Narendran: Incredible udon spot, can be quite crowded and the wait can be long! Jump on the wait-list before you head out for dinner.I had the curry udon, and it was impeccable!

Eric: Friday night was sorta busy but got seated right away at 6. I had the tempura rice bowl with shrimp and veggies that was drizzled with a thick sweet soy sauce. Photos I've found of the bowl from other reviews made it look pretty small. Portion size was pretty big as I was stuffed by the end of the meal. The mini udon portion size was bigger than what I would describe as mini, maybe a child's size portion, which is more than I expected. Price was $18.On my Japan trip a few years back, I really missed their tempura rice bowls, although this wasnt exactly the same it was enough to satisfy my craving. I haven't found any restaurants that offered the same exact dish.Overall, food was good, service was attentive, atmosphere was clean. Would go here again.

Apryl Chiem: Got a table immediately! Pretty quick service, the food comes out in about 15-20 minutes. Ordered the mentai cream sauce udon. Really flavorful but also tasted a bit like Alfredo. My cousin ordered the curry udon and katsu donburi. The Katsu is served over eggs and onions which combined tastes really good. The katsu donburi also comes with a mini udon bowl so it's a lot of food if you're planning to share.

Jason Wang: Excellent agedashi tofu and curry udon — the food made me warm and happy without feeling greasy or heavy!

Luke Schmidt: I took a lot of accidental live photos here, I would have preferred stagnant. I just wanted to capture one moment, I didn't need any of the moments leading up to that one moment. I'll smile for photos because I want to believe I'm happy in most moments of my life. Live photos are showing me that sometimes I look miserable right before smiling. Anyway, at least food doesn't change much with live photos. It looked and tasted great.
