The Simple Travels: First off, how we were greeted and welcomed was far more impressive than our table service was. Not that it was poor, just not as lively and as friendly. Ok… enough of that. The visit was certainly worth it. Fior d’Italia was recommended by a friend and certainly being able to claim we ate at the oldest active restaurant in the U.S. made it a must visit. We very much enjoyed our meal and visit.

Julien Clavel: . For a very acceptable value for money. The service was perfect, kind and very commercial. As a family of 6: I recommend. Thanks again.Kid-friendliness: No children's menu but they have "split" a dish for 2. Adorable, without being asked.

Mandi Drake: We had a wonderful experience! You can tell this is a local favorite. Small corner restaurant in a convenient location. Waitress was very quiet & maybe a bit shy. Starter bread was ok. Absolute best chicken picatta I have ever had! Steak was wonderful as well. Fresh veggies cooked perfectly. Pasta was simple & tasty. The crème brûlée & tiramisu was fabulous & generous potions. Definitely give it a try!

Sayana: If you're a seafood lover in San Francisco, Sotto Mare is an absolute must-visit. This unassuming gem tucked away in North Beach delivers an unforgettable seafood experience that will leave your taste buds singing. The cioppino is simply the best I've ever had. The broth is rich and flavorful, brimming with a medley of fresh seafood – Dungeness crab, clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and fish – all cooked to perfection. Every spoonful is a symphony of flavors that will transport you straight to seafood heaven. But the culinary delights don't stop there. The Sanddab is also must-try, cooked to perfection, very light and delicious. Sotto Mare's oyster shooters are a revelation. The plump, briny oysters are perfectly complemented by the zesty cocktail sauce, creating a delightful explosion of taste that's both refreshing and invigorating. It's the perfect appetizer to kick off your seafood feast. The service is warm and attentive, and the atmosphere is lively and convivial.Must visit!

Shaun Stringfellow: Really good authentic food and decent prices a good place to bring a date if you want to be romantic

Chris Curry: Great Restaurant. Service was superb. Our waiter was Italian which is awesome in an Italian restaurant. We had the Alaskan halibut and the Bucatini. Both were very good. We also had the Vermentino white wine which was excellent. I’m told you don’t see that much in the US. For desert we had the pannacotta Al balsamico. A great treat the way the sour balsamic changes the flavor of the pannacotta. And light too. Recommend trying this place.

Antony PASSEMARD: . Feels cozy but tables are spaced enough to have privacy. Not too noisy for good conversation. Nice service. The food itself is really good. Feels very Mediterranean and the "bar" wine is excellent as well. It was a great surprise and a great time. The burger is amazing by the way...

nabska: Great place for a girls dinner or just a group of friends catching up. The cocktails are amazing and the pastas were exquisite. Highly recommend the fettuccine al Funghi and panna cotta with balsamic.Vegetarian options: The Cacio e Pepe and fettuccine al funghi

Fae LeDawson: This mid-priced Sardinian restaurant has a lot of charm with only small flaws. When you step in, you'll find a charming compact dining area with a loud buzz of conversation. It can be hard to hear others at a table of four and I wish the restaurant had more noise dampening. Service was kind but our water glasses sat empty for too much of the meal, considering the number of servers for the handful of tables. The pork sauce gnochetti was intensely savory and had the perfect texture. My table shared some Sardinian flatbread and olives, which were as expected. The lamb tenderloin was excellent, but I wish there were more vegetables to accompany it. The roe spaghetti was excellent with interesting flavors throughout. And the whole prawns came in a generous serving, also perfectly cooked.Vegetarian options: There's a strong focus on seafood with meat dishes. There are a handful of vegetarian dishes but not a large selection. It would be hard to find vegan options.Parking: You might have to park around the block, and larger cars will struggle to find suitable spots.Kid-friendliness: The atmosphere is casual enough for children above toddler age, but you may have to ask an advance about simple dishes as there are only a few that picky eaters would enjoy.Wheelchair accessibility: The tables are tightly spaced and the restaurant can be slightly crowded. If there are only 1-2 people with wheelchairs, staff might be able to reserve a table with space to wheel around. Without planning ahead, there may be difficulties.

rogueacosta: Exceptional food in quaint digs served up with great service. Started with the burrata served with a lemon and EVO drizzle. Bright, fresh and delicious. Then had the spicy octopus stew. Generally I say that if a place can correctly cook pulpo, everything else is bound to be great and that held true here. Spicy, quite hearty, and chock full of delicious octopus. Then had the gnochetti which was exceptional. Imported Sardinian pecorino, bright flavorful sugo and a dang good sauce base. Loved it. Table had some seared lamb as well which was itself, exceptional. A taste of Italy not often experienced. A must check out!

Joshua Waldman: And to top it off they offered us dessert on the house! We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in San Francisco, don’t miss this place!

David Baker: . Whenever we've gone to La Ciccia, at least one of us orders this dish, and in this visit, it did not disappoint.I decided to try something different and get the fettucine with a tomato and sea urchin sauce, topped with a shaving of cured tuna heart. I love Marcia's pasta with bottarga, but I'm so glad I tried something new. The sauce was amazing -- the tomatoes didn't overpower the sea urchin, and that wonderful flavor of the sea shined right through. For dessert, we split the chocolate panna cotta. It was fine. Marcia liked it more than me. Toasted hazelnuts added a nice texture and flavor to the dish.

Alexandra Carter: My gf and I had made a reservation here for Valentine’s Day, which we’ve had for about a month. Regretfully, I had to cancel last minute due to unforeseen circumstances. I called and spoke with the owner who was incredibly respectful and understanding despite it impacting her business. I’m giving 5 stars for refreshingly great service. We have been dying to come to this restaurant which we’ve heard is a hidden gem. Hoping to make it here soon.

Hari Jagannath: The food is just fantastic. I have been here several times and have tried pretty much everything on the menu and possibly all the wines 😜.The seafood options are the best though we did try the lamb tenderloin tip as well and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked but I would still stick to the seafood options as that is what they are known for, being a Sardinian restaurant. The restaurant is small but they do have a courtyard area that would be great when the weather is nice. The servers were warm and friendly so this added to the pleasure of the evening dinner.Parking: As this is a residential area in the Upper Noe Valley, street parking can be hard find and you may need to go further up the hill to find it which can make for a “digestive” walk back after the meal 😬

Fei Yu: , the salmon and chicken were a hit. Full of flavor and not dry at all. Wow. The roasted veggies were good - some broccoli had a good char, carrots and mushroom a bit greasy. Food was well plated and don't skip the freshly baked bread. It gets a bit crowded inside, but service was fast.

Wook Chung: Credo is a solid establishment in SF and nails 4-stars in every aspect. Everything - food, service, atmosphere, price - is above average and occasionally touches the 5th star but there is definitely something missing to hit that caliber.Unlike many SF restaurants, Credo has secured a large enough space where they definitely set their atmosphere to make a statement. Rustic yet modern interior design with big bold fonts on white definitely takes you away from the streets that wrap the joint. The restaurant feels airy and large windows enhances the mood.Food is solid too. The croquettes were crispy. The baked brie was well balanced and sweet. The fig jam was hearty. The bread was warm with delicious butter and salt. The presentation was also great. But none of the dishes were memorable. They all tasted good, but nothing registered in my mind as unique nor irreplaceable. Again, above average, down the middle, execution.Credo has a reasonable price for what they provide and for this, I do think the restaurant will be popular for the foreseeable future. And yes, I would return. But there's that part of me that wants more. I want to see Credo fully unleashing its potential. They need to take a bit more stance with their taste. Pick a path and commit to it.

Frédéric Bigard: A superb welcome in French please...Well-crafted and copious dishes.

Stella Seych: . The servers spoke Italian and our food was ready very quickly. My only gripe is that I felt the portions were too small for the price, especially since they were served on paper plates and you bus your own tables when dining there. Overall I definitely recommend, but be aware it’s not a huge meal.

Mayra Castillo: The best place to have a no fuss bowl of fresh pasta with sauce. I am a fan of the meat sauce myself but they are all delicious.Parking: Parking in the Marina can be tricky on the weekend but there are plenty of paid lots you can choose.

Giraut Alexandra: but I still recommend

Laura Peters: Stopping to eat in The Italian Homemade Company was the perfect solution for what to do between films at the SF Film Festival. The pasta and sauces are handmade on site, fresh and delicious. Seating is usually easy to get because a lot of their business is take out. I had vegetarian ravioli with pesto and a fresh salad. My friend had meat ravioli with a divine creamy tomato sauce. None of the food lasted long enough to be photographed.Parking: Public transportation to Chestnut Street abounds. Ditch the car at home and take the bus.

Will S: Some reviews say it's terrible, but then you have others actually from Italy who say it's great. People forget that like other countries, there are regional differences and just because you only know one kind doesn't make the other bad.We love the food here. The lasagna is my favorite, this style is made with fresh egg noodles with ragú, bechamel, Parmesan. It is not the style made with dried noodles and layered with ricotta and mozzarella. Pappardelle with Bolognese is always delicious. Tiramisu has good flavor but needs more substance, maybe more lady fingers.Look up the differences between northern and southern Italian pasta. They have flat bread here which is also a Northern thing.

Karol Zdebel: Highly recommend if you're looking for good Italian food

Nick Taber: Best pizza in the world. It’s as good as ever. Don’t miss out.

Denise Bostrom: My family has been enjoying Tommaso’s food — especially the pizza — since 1980; 44 years. This restaurant is the real deal, as far the Tommaso family raising children in North Beach, attending church in North Beach, and running a business in North Beach — way before I even thought about moving to North Beach. It’s a terrific restaurant with deep roots in the neighborhood.Kid-friendliness: Of course children are welcome and appreciated in Tommaso’s; it’s an Italian restaurant, owned by a warm and generous Italian family!

jeremy hurst: This was our first time here and it did not disappoint. The food is fresh and quality. Drinks were the same. Great selection of both. The service was by far heads and tails above just about any restaurant I’ve been to in San Francisco. This place makes sure to make you feel like you’re at home and that you are taken care of. Thank you David and Marco for the SUPER hospitality! We will be back!

S Bondale: Good food, and wine. Not pretentious like north beach restaurants.Recommended dishes Gnocchi Gorgonzola Recommendation for vegetarians Somewhat recommend Vegetarian offerings Vegetarian menu or section …

Laura: The most authentic Italian food I have ever tasted! Pricy but well worth it and wonderful service as well. A classy place for a delicious relaxed meal with your spouse.

Adriana Medina: , the vibe, the atmosphere was AMAZING! We went around 3:30 so it wasn’t too crowded. They had a Dj playing oldies, creating a good time. Everything we ordered was fresh and beyond what we expected. I wish I could pack this place up and take it back to the east coast with me. Definitely visiting this place again.

Drew Davis: Just an all around excellent brunch experience. We were welcomed and seated immediately, the staff was very helpful and knowledgeable with the menu, and the decor and building itself were beautiful. The food was all fantastic, but the blueberry focaccia was extra special, and the chili bomba sauce is one of my new favorite sauces. Finally, the drinks at brunch were a welcome breath of fresh air, inventive and delicious cocktails that accompanied the food perfectly.

Smruti Srinivasan: The best food I've had in a while. What a concept and such exquisite dishes.Their Suppli is outstanding...Please please do visit.

Gerardo Costabile: . Excellent food, perhaps too much garlic and chilli in some dishes but we enjoyed it very much. Advised. Fairly high price.Kid-friendliness: There are high chairs and pizza available. There is no ad hoc children's menu.

Amina Ahsan Haque: OVERALL: 5/5Food: 5/5Service: 5/5Ambiance: 5/5 - The bar area is casual, but the dining room is very intimate.Had been on the list for a while, so glad we were finally able to make it. The service was exceptional and the food amazing!!!!Vegetarian options: We had an all vegetarian meal. They were able to adjust their dishes to vegetarian.Dietary restrictions: Flexible in removing meat when asked.Parking: Street parking. Difficult to find parking

Lisa C: The 10 hour beef parpadelle was lovely, rich and delicate at the same time. The starters were yummy. The florentine steak itself was only so-so which is a shame given the cost. Extensive Italian only wine menu. The dining room is very loud. The service could have been a tiny bit more attentive, nice as we didn’t feel pressured but probably left waiting to order for a bit too long.

Imaan: This is a cute spot for a date night!Seems like on weekends it gets busier and booked up so we went for a later reservation. The vibe an interior is cozy and intimate. The service was great: friendly and helpful with recommendations. We all agreed the pasta was good and all got finished!Appetizers were good but not great--maybe some more options there would be nice.

tex mcmahon: Had a really great valentines dinner here. Everything was excellent and I can’t wait to come back and try the more exotic menu items

James C: I’m up at 4 am, no clue why and I’m hungry. I scroll through photos of my recent trip to Italy and get hungrier. Then I randomly recall this amazing ragu I had at AltoVino. Such is the rabbit hole of my brain today.I first stumbled upon this place a few years back when my gf and I were randomly walking down this street after exploring Chinatown. Looked good, half empty, so we sat down outside for what was an amazing meal. I recall thinking “holy s***, what is this place and why is it here and why is it so good and why is it…. So good?” Since then we’ve been a few times more, and each time was equally amazing. For me what I find particularly fascinating about this place is its own unique balance across its often refreshed menu. It’s an intelligently restrained yet creative balance of tradition and new “California” flair. One dish may stick rather close to a traditional Amatriciana while another consists of an intriguing mixture of ingredients that just simply makes sense once tasted. There’s something for everyone and everything is excellent. It speaks to the experience and refined palate of the owners. All paired with a fantastic wine menu, your meals will be memorable here each time.I’ve recommended this place to anyone that has asked me, “what are some top places to eat in SF?” And I swear on baby Jesus that AltoVino has come out of my mouth within the first 3 places I mention, each time. And to this day, well I suppose to this late morning - I still don’t know why this place isn’t booked out every single evening. It’s bizarre. So ignore reviews that say “we weren’t satisfied because we were still hungry afterwards.” Which, is one of the dumbest reasons for mediocre reviews because, what, a restaurant is supposed to figure out or cater to your appetite? Ignore reviews that say “oh this place wasn’t authentic.” Hmm what sort of authentic were you looking for? What is authentic at the end of day?Because if authentic is a menu honoring its ingredients, staying true to the local spirit while paying generous and fantastic homage to the cuisine’s roots, then this is one such place.Ok back to sleep.

Sachet Dube: Had a great experience dining at Altovino. Food was amazing and most importantly, the sommelier at this restaurant kept things very interesting for us. We've had some of the best wine recommendations here.Vegetarian options: Couple of pasta options which can be made vegetarian upon request

Abhi Reddy Dandu: Great place for brunch. Offers good variety of breakfast options including vegan and vegetarian to choose from. Good price for cocktails and good. The waitress was knowledgeable and service was great. I would recommend. The only con I felt was the tables were too close to each other and it was kind of uncomfortable talking to the group becoz I felt like I might make other customers sitting next to me annoyed.

American Angler: Seems like I was on the beach all day, and caught my limits of fish, gave them all away to the people that showed intrest in them, and even cleaned one because the little scab that wanted it didn't know how to prep it for cooking. The ocean is a great place, but it sure can make you cold, cold all the way through, but luckily the Golden Mirror Italian Restaurant is just a few blocks away and nothing warms a body better than good authentic Italian food. ☆☆☆☆☆The food was so good I had to go back just to make sure I wasn't dreaming. I took my pal'et Patty Applejack with me to verify the quality, presentation and taste of our meal.Patty said they smashed it! and I agree. 5 stars again ☆☆☆☆☆

Lisa Chen: Popped in for dinner randomly on a Wednesday night at 7 and it was lively and full. The food was far better than I expected from the low key exterior of the restaurant—veal parmigiana was amazingly good, tiramisu was surprisingly light and perfect, cannoli were lovely. You can tell things are made from scratch and with care here. We had a lovely waiter Joseph who made us feel like cherished family even though it was our first time. We will be back here often for our special occasions.

Laura Henderson: We held a 30-person corporate reception and dinner at Zingari last week. Our guests have shared so much positive feedback on the setup, service and food - all fabulous. As the organizer, I was relieved to choose from so many vegan/gluten-free options on the menu. Thanks Neeraj to you and your team for treating our guests to a wonderful evening - we'll be by next time we're in San Francisco.

Curt Hodge: Our group of 7 tried Zingari on a whim and were very pleased at the outcome. The cocktails were great and the food was nothing short of excellent. It was pretty expensive, so I guess we should expect more when you pay more, but even so, we were surprised at how great the experience was. They didn't have any music playing the night we had dinner, so I can't comment on how that would have impacted the experience. But if you're looking for really good Italian food and great drinks, and aren't on a tight budget, Zingari is a great option.

CJ Willis: Came here for my 40th, and I could not be happier with the choice! The food here was precisely on point. I was blown away by the duck pate and the squid ink pasta with shrimp special. And the service was friendly and helpful. Particular shout-out to William! Thank you for suggesting we combine the chocolate and panna cotta desserts, as well as just being great!Parking: Plan to walk or take a ride share!

Alicia DiGiammarino: The main draw here is the pasta dishes and for good reason. They are simple and cooked to perfection. You can’t go wrong but the Maccheroncelli is apparently the reason customers return again and again. Perhaps also they come back to see William, our waiter, who has worked there over 13 years and knows the menu in and out. He even knows the seven hills of Rome and the seven hills of SF!

Elisa Tran: Food was splendid, ambience was perfect for a romantic night out, and service was fast and warm!Loved the duck liver pate and tagliolini, steak didn’t hit home for us but still good! Dessert was incredible, best panna cotta I’ve had

Alexandra Keller: Everything about one’s experience here is superb. From the moment you walk in until the completion of the meal - it is top tier service. They care about all the details, from the freshness of each ingredient to the suggestions and pairings of items. We started with the olives and avocado salad - the olives were warm and juicy, and the salad was fresh and light. Paired well together! We also ordered both the squid ink special pasta and the truffle - they were absolutely delicious. We also ordered the garlic Parmesan focaccia and finished off with the chocolate mousse dessert. 10/10 recommend, everything was perfect!

scott phillips: We went here for the first time, based on the ratings and reviews on line. We had an exceptionally wonderful experience. The food was delicious, and very lovingly prepared. We ordered the Straciatella to start which we split and it was divine. We followed that with the market fish and the special crab pasta, both of which were fabulous. My wife found the pasta to be among the best pasta dishes she’s ever had. The service was outstanding. Our waiter was attentive and patiently explained and described every dish. He was very friendly and engaged with us as much as we liked. The atmosphere of the restaurant is low key and calm. This is a truly top level place. We felt so lucky to find it.
