Grayson Cash: Training with Coach Garrett with out 1:1 sessions has been awesome. Since I'm stuck at home, it's been refreshing to be able to do this virtually, even though I live in LA and they're based in SF. I also don't have any equipment so I find myself easily fitting the sessions in between meetings. Garrett is someone I'd strongly recommend as he works with you where you are.

Celi Hernandez: It was my second time taking a group exercise class with Perform For Life, but my first time taking a Small Group Class at this location. I took the class with Coach Jon and it was definitely one of the sweatiest classes that I've been to. He went through all of the exercises clearly before we began each circuit. The exercises made my muscles burn-in a good way, and by the end of the class I was ready to just lie on the floor. Coach Jon is funny and engaging with the rest of the class and encourages each person to do their best. While I haven't taken many classes at P4L, it's clear that he wants us to know that everybody at P4L is a part of the family.
Peter Jang: By far the best small group class I have taken in SF! I am always traveling so it is hard to find a gym with classes that run all day. The location is a nice size and has a nostalgic feel to it. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a personal training studio that feels like home.

Kristina Perlas: Small Group classes here are excellent! The 7:10pm HIIT-Strength Monday and Thursday classes are great! I’ve been taking the classes for almost a year now, started with Coach Becca and now Coach Jon. He’s personable and keeps the motivation up after a long day! You can make it as challenging as you need, with a max 8 people he’ll guide you to do the exercises correctly. There are regulars to the class, and seeing the great fun people in my classes makes working out something to look forward to! The other group classes are great too when I get a chance to do them, but I’m glad P4L has a 7:10pm class as that works best with my schedule!
John Breslin: Overall an excellent gym. Great coaches all around. I want to single out Coach Eva, she’s awesome. She started an Olympic lifting program from the ground up at this gym that is definitely the reason I keep coming. We have a cool mini-community with people on the same wavelength wanting to move more weight around and do more explosive movements than the small group classes allow with how many people are in them. It’s an awesome way to be able to track measured progress of performance in a way that’s more engaging for me than worrying about numbers on a scale. Only reason for the loss of the star is because it seems like management is getting a little dicey with the scheduling of the oly classes. Built out a new location that’s perfect for it with platforms and everything, put oly classes on the schedule then cut them a couple days later with no notice. Seems like it’s short circuiting a really cool aspect of this gym that was starting to grow. These classes are literally the reason I come and it’s rough to see them deprioritized like this.

Brent Hong: which built my confidence when training on my own. I highly recommend James, especially if you’re looking to implement strength training to assist in other sports such as running! I always looked forward to my sessions and he was extremely accommodating when I wasn’t able to make certain training sessions.
Joshua Mayer: Great facilities and excellent trainers. I started coming to Custom Fit after tearing two discs in my lower back over two years ago. I began with solo training sessions for a year before my fiance starting joining me for partner sessions. The training regiments are “custom fit” to your needs, so in my two years there we have focused on core strength and lower back mobility while also getting in a full body workout. My current trainer Charles has been a true inspiration and i highly recommend him to anyone who thinks they lack the inner strength to overcome any physical adversity life has thrown at you.

Stephanie Chen Gulla: ...but James is soooo different. He's got incredibly welcoming energy, and is so good at ramping up to a pace that feels achievable, yet also pushes your limits. I immediately saw results without feeling beat up at the end of a workout.James also always shares with me the science and physiology behind what we're doing. He's helped me understand and recognize what muscle groups are working for each exercise, and that has made me infinitely more aware of my own body. We started with weight training because it actually burns more fat than pure cardio. And it was incredible to pretty quickly be able to lift my school-age son like it was nothing!Whenever I felt like I was plateauing because it was so hard to make time for exercise, James would brainstorm with me different approaches of incorporating activity with my schedule. By creating micro-goals that felt achievable, I'm now someone who is working out in some capacity - swimming, running, dance classes, etc - several times a week

She finds new ways of helping me train muscle groups to fire together without other unnecessary muscles engaging, works with me on balance, agility and upper body strength. I highly recommend her.

They truly have everything one could want.I found Custom Fit initially when looking for a place to do a DEXA scan in April 2023. I had wonderful experience with Evan who walked me through my scan without judgement and provided me with all the information I needed to understand the scan in its entirety.Following my DEXA scan - and per Evan's suggestion - I signed up to work with a nutritionist, Tarah. Tarah has been a critical part of my health journey and I am so thankful for her tips and motivation over the last 6 months. Working with her, I have successfully lost 20lbs+ and feel stronger, healthier and more confident than I ever have in my life. More importantly, she has changed my relationship to food and has even gotten me into cooking! I am so thankful for her and again, feel lucky to have access to Tarah as well as DEXA/other resources all at one studio.Lastly, this review would not be complete without highlighting my personal trainer, Jonathan. I have struggled to find gyms/fitness classes that I have stuck to and have been self-conscious about getting back to the gym after gaining weight/not prioritizing enough time to fitness throughout the pandemic. I was matched with Jonathan and from day one have felt comfortable and supported by him. I love the workouts he programs and can feel myself getting stronger every week. He challenges me every session and I always leave feeling accomplished and with a smile on my face after all his funny stories - a great distraction during the tough workouts he plans. Rory Gallagher: I just started with Custom Fit last week. Two sessions in and I am hooked. I have not been to a gym or had a personal trainer in 20+ years, so I was very nervous about it considering that I am fairly unfit. I’ve partnered up with Anthony Dandrea as my trainer and it’s been nothing short of amazing. The facilities are great. It’s not crowded and everyone in the gym is just doing their thing, so my fears of people watching me are totally unfounded. In two sessions, Anthony took the time to get to know me, hear about my goals, and then he met me where I am currently at with fitness. I know he will push me, but he delivers it in such an encouraging and positive way, it honestly feels like I just have a friend cheering me on from the sidelines. Anthony and the team at Custom Fit should be super proud. Highly recommended and ready to keep booking sessions.

Just an excellent, flexible, highly skilled trainer and on top of that has physical therapy experience which has come in handy for my lower back issues and shoulder problems. He also adjusts my training based on my fitness habits outside of the gym, keeping a close eye on my hips and knees as I am an active walker/runner.On top of all of this, the DEXA scan was unbelievably insightful, showing my imbalances, my bone density, and my weak points based on my age. Cannot express enough how great this place is if you are a data nerd like myself.The gym in Hayes Valley is very cool, open, not crowded, clean and focused on strength and flexibility. This isn't the place to just come and jump on a cardio machine - its a holistic experience with racks, sleds, ropes, stability balls, lots of weight machines, foam rollers, and a dope ice plunge bath and sauna. The moment I walked into Perform For Life, that intimidation feeling I always get when I walk into a gym immediately went away. The atmosphere here is so positive! All of the coaches here are super welcoming, supportive, and knowledgeable. It really feels like a tight knit community when you come in.The biggest thanks for my new found confidence in myself, and love for lifting weights and working out goes to my Coach Kris Gallimore. I was first paired with him based on my specific goals and his experience previously training tactical athletes. He's patient, encouraging, super informative, and most of all so genuine and makes working out so much fun and enjoyable. The programs he's put together for my goals are top-notch, and we do so much different variety of workouts each session. Every session I feel challenged, and so proud of myself for accomplishing something I did not even know I was capable of. My most recent accomplishment was 30 inch box jumps!! I can’t say thank you enough to him for encouraging me to challenge myself both mentally and physically every session. Seriously, I could rave about him for hours.They also have small group classes that's taught by amazing coaches to supplement the work you are doing with your coach 1:1. These classes are capped at about 5 people so you still have that intimate community feeling.Any fitness goals that you have, Perform For Life can get you there. They will help you meet, and exceed your own expectations that you did not even know you were capable of.

From consultation, to my first day of training, to the small group classes, I've learned so much about fitness and my own body during this process. I don't know about you, but I've definitely walked into many gyms feeling intimidated and scared to ask questions about how to use machines or how to work out. But at P4L, they've created such a welcoming and friendly culture where you can just keep asking questions and learn about fitness that you can take with you years after. Cardio room was also very clean.OverallWill definitely use again if in town for less than a week trip. Anything over a week with regular lifting schedule you'll need a bigger gym

They have done a great job of following the covid health protocol and making us feel safe and comfortable. Alex, who helps me sign up on membership is awesome. He is helpful, friendly and pleasant. Many different machines to choose this gym has two floors bottom and second. A special area is designed for thirty minutes only. I have basic membership, however they have more perks for other members.they have a massage chair and spray on tanning booth for membership that's premium.

Michael Guss: . There is a good variety of machines. But the hours could be better. They open at 7 a.m. Many of us like to workout before work and this precludes that. They're open pretty late...to 9 p.m. I think 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. would be better. Then on Sundays, they're only open to 3 p.m. and open at 9. I think 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. would be better. There is one in Oakland that's open 24 hours but that's a 35 minute Bart Ride away. I don't mind this because I am training for a summer marathon, but there's no AC and poor ventilation...it gets pretty warm inside.

Aditi Sharma: Been a loyal member of this gym for around 10 months, and I can't sing its praises enough! The staff here are incredibly friendly, the classes—mind-blowing! Personally, I'm obsessed with the pole class and aerial yoga. Plus, the equipment is top-notch, and the atmosphere is always buzzing with positive energy. No complaints whatsoever. Highly recommend!
Grant Mitchell: Cheapest gym in the Marina and not too crowded compared to other Crunch gyms in the city. Always very clean and safe environment. They just updated the floor plan which is much better for floor workouts, moving the cardio room to the 3rd floor.

James Tremayne: I do not go to this gym, I came in after my shift thinking I had access because I was sold on an upgraded gym membership at my home gym in Santa Rosa, because they were the ones that told me it included access to all Crunch locations. This location was not included in my plan because it is one of the few non-franchise locations.The only reason Im making this a positive review is because the manager there Aren was a great help in explaining the complicated gym plan my home gym sold me and what my options were for workouts for when I'm in San Francisco for work. He still let me in for the day for a free workout and it's clear to me he runs the place well with how clean the place is. Now I might consider going here.

Zachary McCarty: Love that they stay open until 10:30, it really makes a big difference. I also appreciate that they have 2 flat and 2 incline bench presses unlike some other nearby gyms. I think this is one of better Crunches in SF overall!
