O V: I’m surprised and wasn’t what I was expecting. Visited my family member and was greeted nicely by the reception and the nurses were very nice. He came here from the Emergency room and we didn’t know what to expect. He is doing well and likes his treatment and food is very good. So far so good. Would recommend.

Kassel Weinstein: THIS IS STRICTLY FOR THE OUTPATIENT PROGRAMI was in SJBH hospital for 10 days before being walked directly to the outpatient program.At first I was hesitant about being there. I had been in other PHP/IOP programs that were less intensive and not as productive. I even told the group that I didn't see myself staying there long.What I found, however, was an incredible staff with empathetic leaders who guided us patients on a healing path to discover our true selves. The staff provided thoughtful and intriguing resources that challenged our thought patterns and behaviors that were sometimes maladaptive to society, or at least self-detrimental. They helped me appreciate myself and my abilities more. They taught me practical coping skills, how to have radical acceptance, relaxation techniques, Tolerance, patience, and so much more.The patients were so incredibly supportive. They were genuine and welcomed me as part of their group. They supported me and helped be the surrogate ego that I needed as I built my own.The entire experience was incredible and invaluable. I have come away with so much more insight and have experienced extreme personal growth. Today was my last day, I graduated from the program! The entire program was extremely happy and supportive of me, and told me that if I need them, I am welcome to return. I am grateful for the patients, the staff, the program, and all of the incredible support I received. THANK YOU SJBH PHP AND PATIENTS!!

Daniel Lindley: I have Dr Mai to thank for quite literally saving my life.I've been seeing him for the past four years, and in that time he's helped me get my PDD and ADHD under control. He also helped me kick alcohol to the curb...all while being an attentive, compassionate, and personable physician.Keep in mind that folks tend to be more likely to post negative reviews if they had a bad experience, making those experiences overrepresented in these types of formats. Dr. Mai is bound to make mistakes from time to time as all of us are, and his office is VERY busy due to the high demand and limited supply of practitioners for psychiatric services. His staff is always helpful and friendly, though, and he's never let me down.Highly recommended, with no disrespect meant to those posting with negative experiences. I always enjoy my monthly appointments with him, and while he may not be able to help everyone, he's the only psychiatrist in 35 years that has been able to help me get my life back on track.

Thinh Mai: South Bay Behavioral Health and Dr. Mai's team are very busy teams. These teams are located in San Jose and provide care for patients. This is different from the pro bono and/or nonprofit work that some of our psychiatric providers will do from time to time. If you are seeing Dr. Mai at South Bay Behavioral Health, you are getting more comprehensive services. If you see Dr. Mai at underserved, non-profit clinics, then he is there to manage medication. The non-profit clinics that he helps have counselors and therapists that refer their patients for medication management.In these cities and counties, there are not enough psychiatrists to help their residents. The only time he agrees to help an underserved nonprofit team is when that location is in dire need of an experienced psychiatrist. We apologize that the services are fragmented in this way.Unfortunately, in these underserved areas, several patients were given psychiatric medication management by providers with zero psychiatric training. This requires time to review and request previous medical records before working on a management protocol. There are patients that are prescribed multiple control substances that can kill horses. Therefore, Dr. Mai will not prescribe medications that are not appropriate in these outpatient settings, but are instead appropriate for addiction medicine teams.It is very difficult to get good and comprehensive services, especially in these underserved areas. We are trying our best to provide these pro-bono and/or non-profit psychiatric services for your area. We apologize that Dr. Mai can only give psychiatric medications help. In the last two years, he and his team has turned down several non-profit teams because they did not have enough counselors and therapists to provide non-medication services. There can be misunderstandings about the services provided. Please understand that what South Bay Behavioral Health does for our patients are different from the services provided by the non-profit clinics you go to. We thank you for your understanding. They do not ring at all true to myself or the 5 friends I have referred to Doctor Mai.I first started seeing Doctor Mai when he first opened his practice in San Jose. During our first appointment he spent an hour talking to me about my issues, the meds I was taking, my traumas and my life. That day, he stopped3 meds, introduced 1 new one.I have seen him once a month since then. The latest he has ever been is ~ 10 minutes. He very quickly demonstrated his concern for me and my wellbeing. Though not a psychotherapist, over time we went through my life. He modified my meds.Doctor Mai was so concerned about my seeming resistance to meds, he ran a slew of genetic testing that ended up being shocking, yet explained sooooooo much.Doctor Mai even purchased a TMS machine. For2 weeks so far. I have gone to treatment everyday. You know what? I feel lighter after each session. and this is only been 3 weeks.I have seen 5 Psychiatrists. Doctor Mai is far and away the most responsive, great listener, truly concerned about my improvement. He has gone out of his COUNTLESS TIMES to do or find things that may have the slimmest of chances of helping me.Without hesitation, I would put my life into Doctor Thinh Duy Mai, M.D.'s hands.

Adam Ryan: Dr. Maitra is a rare type of doctor. She takes extra time with each of her patients. Although this sometimes means waiting a bit more for your appointment, it ensures adequate time is given to address your issues. Dr. Maitra along with her staff are very friendly and accommodating. They provide snacks and water for while waiting in the lobby. The overall atmosphere in her clinic is that of a "mom and pop shop". The staff are respectful and yet very personable. I cannot recommend her services enough.

Dr Maitra is truly one of a kind and my family is very thankful that we found her after wasting thousands of dollars with other psychiatric firms who only take your money and don’t actually care about their patients. I searched high and low throughout the bay area and Lumos and Dr Maitra are by far the best service I have found. You will not be disappointed if you are generally looking for help and a Doctor who actually cares about your health and wellbeing! Dr Maitra diagnosed me quickly and came up with a treatment plan that worked. She is caring, kind and frankly the best psychiatrist anyone could find. She didn’t make me feel like I had a mental illness but that I had a chemical imbalance that needed to be dealt with . For ex diabetics need insulin due to an imbalance and I required medication due to the chemical imbalance I had in my genetic makeup.Because of her I have the courage to share my journey - I’m not afraid or ashamed to share. Dr maitra has been helping me with some other private issues and I have the confidence and hope that I will be able to over come these issues as well. Her office is beautiful and she has a staff that’s on top of the details that matter !
