Considering I've gone to all of the theaters in the south bay, Showplace is really the premiere experience for those of us who still enjoy going out to the movies!

Nora Ismail: I loved the IMAX Dome theater at the Tech Interactive. I used to come here as a kid before they had the Dome, and I'm grateful this amazing technology exists. It reminds me a little of the 3D experience that Great America had in the nineties. You feel like you're almost in the movie being played or about to fall in.The sound is crisp, clear, and great for anyone who's hard of hearing but not yet deaf. I think they have subtitles if you can't hear at all. I can't hear well, but I could hear Jane Goodall's documentary so well in the IMAX Dome.The level of sound was too loud for my three year old nephew, though. He did not enjoy it and kept placing his hands over his ears. So, if you're bringing children who have great hearing, maybe bring headphones for them or anything to cover their ears that will subdue the sound.I always recommend the Tech Interactive as a cool spot to visit whether you're a tourist or a local to San José or the SF Bay Area. It's a fun and educational experience.

Teri Monbureau: This is my favorite movie theater - clean, comfortable, and fantastic decor. They consistently play the best films - hot new releases, international films, late night Rocky Horror Picture Show, and every year the Oscars short films.They offer tasty bites, delicious gelato, beverages including beer and wine, and of course popcorn, that can be enjoyed during the movie. Super easy parking in a city lot that is attached to the theater and FREE with theater validation. Staff are all so friendly. Get off the couch and see a movie on the big screen!

D M: ......Regarding decor, the lobby decor is divided by eras, from the turn of the century, to the 80's..In the lobby there is a table made of cassettes, and, as well, another table made of Rubrik's cubes! There is even a turn-of-the century phonograph!. All in all, this place is a true gem, a museum. Highly, highly recommended to have a refreshment, and/or for movies and live shows.
Brian Naughton: We had a lot of fun seeing the original production "Thanks for Playing! The Game Show Show". The cast is small but they are really talented and put on an amazing show! The theater is comfortable and every seat is great. The concessions are really inexpensive compared to other venues. This was our first time but we're planning to attend each show they put on!

All the staff was friendly and helpful. It's a small venue so the view is good no matter where you sit. The show was good and the atmosphere was fun. I got discounted tickets through Goldstar app.

Eddie Z: I highly recommend California theater if you get a chance to take in a show or event at this location. One of the last few original theaters in San Jose Dad that gives you a very classy and authentic appreciation for theater. The venue is tri-level and the seating provides very good views of the main stage. The staff is wonderful and courteous and friendly and depending on your event as well, they generally chef drinks. I would definitely add this venue to your list and check their schedule of events coming up. Can't wait to go back!

As none of the movies currently playing were right for our event, were able to select a slightly older movie. They even had a sign with the movie saying starring her name! It was a spectacular success. My little one felt incredibly special. A birthday she will never forget! Especially big thank you to manager, Pete Ross, for not only making the set up process easy and seamless, but also being so friendly, kind and accommodating on the day of the party.Best part: Zero party clean up afterwards! Philip Bernosky: An intimate movie experience, small but very comfortable, clean. Reclining seats are the best anywhere. Food and drink service to your seat is a great bonus. Food used to be much better, but Nenu has shrunk and the quality is just so-so. Screen is Sony digital 4k... Not a Dolby theater but still very good. While I see all the major movies like Dune or Oppenheimer in Dolby or IMAX, this is where I go for all others.

Dan Quine: A small space, but it does mean every seat is close to the stage. We were in "restricted view" seats off to the side, which were just fine. The will call turned out to be an enthusiastic but rather disorganized guy with a clipboard outside the entrance. Overall a rather charming theater experience.
