Jason Ross: Ozumo was a fantastic dining experience. Definitely pricey, but 💯 worth it. Great food, great atmosphere, and service.Kid-friendliness: I wouldn't recommend this restaurant for kids younger than tweens, because the food is unlikely to appeal to them.

Cho Lee: Ozumo is an exceptional restaurant that offers the best Japanese dining experience in San Francisco. If I were to describe my impression in one word, it would be "amazing."First and foremost, I must mention the quality of the food highly. The dishes I ordered were made with fresh ingredients and prepared using exquisite cooking techniques. The sushi, in particular, stood out with its remarkable freshness and deliciousness. I recommend the fatty tuna nigiri and the tempura shrimp.Furthermore, the service at Ozumo is outstanding. The staff is incredibly friendly and provided us with attentive hospitality tailored to our needs. They took the time to explain the dishes and offered suggestions for sake pairings. The ambiance of the restaurant is also exceptional. The modern interior design skill fully incorporates traditional Japanese elements, creating a serene atmosphere. At the counter seats, you can witness the skilled hands of the chefs and enjoy the experience of having fresh sushi prepared right in front of you.Overall, Ozumo is undoubtedly one of the finest Japanese restaurants in San Francisco. The quality of the food, the level of service, and the pleasant ambiance all contribute to an exceptional dining experience. I highly recommend visiting Ozumo. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also outstanding. The modern interior incorporates Japanese elements, creating a calm atmosphere. If you sit at the counter, you can watch the chef's work up close and enjoy fresh sushi right in front of your eyes.We hope that your desired translation will be helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Cynthia Colas: This place is beautiful in every way and their sushi is super fresh; I would definitely recommend checking it out if you're looking for a quality sushi restaurant in San Francisco.

Lily: Probably one of the more creative in presentation ! This place is worth the visit. It had classic things like uni and chutoro/otoro/ salmon eggs. The wagyu was yummy. The reservation was easy not sure what the purpose of the 8pm vs 815 reservation is. I noticed that everyone at the omakase bar was eating at a different pace. Some that were served first end up being served last as the dinner progressed on.The dress code is semi causal, my bf wore jeans .The omakase here is interesting as there are 3 chefs and each of them will serve 2-3 couples. Unlike other omakase I have been to, this one is less informative. They do mentioned some of the cuts here and there. The interaction with the chef is minimal Towards the end, he will ask if you want more or less rice and if you want to order anything else.I would say out of the omakase places I have been to, this one has the most amount of food. Also loved that ther dessert isn't a sweet tamago nigri!

St Aubyn King: What an experience. I found this place after arriving in San Francisco with no dinner reservations. I was not aware of the cost of meal until after I was seated and had already ordered something to drink. I was like what the hell, but after taking a few deep breath and realized I may never experience this as I don't think I will be making it to Japan anytime soon. The service was awesome as they explained each dish, it was sometimes hard to understand what they were saying. All the dishes were delicious and fresh. I was almost full half way through, but made space as the food was so good. Would I do this again, maybe not because of the price, but was so glad for the experience

Jeff Wallace: This was one of the best dining experiences of my life. And I’m old! Everything about Kusakabe was excellent, everything. The restaurant was warm, friendly and inviting, like you were eating at a friend’s home. We had a great conversation with our chef, our server recommended some great sake and all 18 courses were spectacular.Highly recommended, put Kusakabe on your bucket list, you will not be disappointed.

Jason Eng: Wow. An incredible omakase experience! Had the 18-course dinner, sitting at the chefs counter and I could not be more impressed by the quality and creativity of the food presented! Each course was distinct, delicious, flavorful, and there was nothing “basic” or “common” that was served. My favorites were the chawan-mushi, otoro, uni on uni, Hokkaido scallop and uni, Kyoto-style pressed saba, kelp-cured flounder fin… and more!A few minor critiques: the wagu sukiyaki was tender and delicious, but tasted too sweet. The miso soup was overly salty. And the yuzu sorbet had nice flavor but was served hard like an ice cube.Would definitely return to dine again. Recommended.

Gino Diaz: It's really my first Omesake! We went with my wife to celebrate Valentine's Day ❤️; And well, I had already investigated the place: 🍣 🍣 🍣 with a Michelin star it sounds attractive!!! So let's go.We first had to make a reservation in advance...approximately 1 month. We arrived easily on foot and because we arrived punctually, they welcomed us cordially in Japanese. The traditional suchi bar in good wood finish and behind it; The different chefs are very busy preparing the different dishes. We opted for one of 19 that included dessert! We found the cost reasonable for a culinary experience that truly is a symphony of unique and sublime flavors for those who love suchi. The Omesake Master was present...supervising all the actions...which never stopped...because it was a parade of exquisite dishes...they were all spectacular, but there were always some that stood out the most. We prefer a light beer to Sake... and at the end of the agreement, we decided to try wagyu A5!! Don't miss it...and you will definitely repeat the experience. Saluti a tutti 😎.

Erica (EVLove11): , that dinner is a whole heck of a lot cheaper than buying an airplane ticket to Japan in order to find anything close to this authentic. And with the intimate, high diversity, fixed course experience that they serve, the price is a necessary to cover their costs of staff and low table turnover. If you are a sushi snob

Yolanda: Pretty good but not one of the best omakases I’ve had

Amanda Hu: An amazing omakase experience in SF and reasonably priced. All the sushi was so fresh and paired well with the different flavors. Even their non-sushi dishes were wonderful and their ice dessert was amazing. Make a reservation because they’re very small and fill up quickly

J S (AR): , the food is great. I did both dine-in and takeout

Rick Balwani: Great omakase experience. It seems they’ve switched the menu format from ala carte to just two prefixe options. While I miss the old menu, the new format makes it easy to order. The jalapeño marinated tuna was one of the best sushi pieces I’ve had. My only suggestion would be to alternate pieces. They bring out two bites of the same fish and I felt back to back bites of mackerel and tuna to be a bit much.

Nick Wang: which was tasty. The romeo and juliet roll was also great, highly recommend. The family affair roll was also amazing although I'd try the Romeo & Juliet roll over it.Our group also tried the Agedashi tofu which was what you expected. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Delicious.

w foodie: We came here for lunch and had an excellent meal! We’ve been coming here for over a decade, and the quality and consistency has stood the test of time. We ordered the warm sake, shrimp tempura roll, spider roll, 49er roll, double hamachi roll, rainbow roll, salmon sashimi, salmon special, chirashi, mochi ice cream, and green tea ice cream. Everything was delicious, and we will definitely continue coming back when we’re back in San Francisco!

Edward Lee: but like levels above The Handroll Project. Anyone that says Handroll Project is better, is more attracted to flashy novel ingredients than a focus on taste.

Isaiah Jackson: Cool, low-key concept with a great vibe. Handrolls come hot and fresh and the experience of one handroll at a time makes for a great time. Not for filling up to be super full but for enjoying time with friends over great small bites

Claudia K M: Saru Handroll provided a delightful dining experience with an array of handroll sushi options, including Fatty Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp Tempura, and Cucumber & Plum. The miso soup, edamame, and hot buckwheat tea complemented the meal perfectly in a stylish, modern setting.Noteworthy were the pre-meal wet tissue towels, a thoughtful touch for cleaning our hands after savoring the handroll sushi. However, it’s important to note that the set menu did not allow for substitutions. Minus one star off - as the sets have crab and shrimp; no sub-options available for people with seafood allergies.Despite this, Saru Handroll proved to be a charming spot suitable for various occasions, whether it’s a date night, girls’ night, or gathering with friends and family. I recommend it for both the flavors and the ambiance.

Melissa Dee: and we had a nice quick quiet dinner. The yellowtail was notable but everything was delicious.Pre-meal we were given hot hand towels and payment was quick and easy.

S Wong: I had Hokkaido Chirashi at this restaurant. The seafood in the Chirashi bowl consisted of chopped scallop, a shrimp, salmon etc. Overall they were fresh. I was particularly impressed by the side items including the pickled vegetables, pickled salmon, and the tempura pumpkin slice, which was very delicious. This dish was a little bit pricy. Given the price, I expected more seafood in the Chirashi bowl.

Zhen Tang: Their Una Ten Donburi is incredibly delicious! The menu with pictures makes dining in super convenient. The waitress, a sweet lady, recommended the Una Ten Donburi, and I loved it! The eel melts in your mouth, and the tempura fried shrimp is so crispy, like biting into a croissant! Mixing the onsen egg into the rice doubles the deliciousness! The house salad was a bit salty, so I didn't finish it, but overall, it was a satisfying meal. Definitely recommend it to friends!

Scarlet Newman: I went for dinner early on a Saturday. We arrived when they opened and we were warmly greeted by the chef/waiter.I really liked the more old fashioned approach with no super expensive Omakase options. There were 3 of us and we ordered all our favorite nigiris and rolls accompanied by hot sake. All the fish selections were very fresh and generously cut. We ate until fully satiated and finished off dinner with a refreshing orange and another carafe of sake on the house. If I lived in the neighborhood I would be here weekly. They also have an extensive selection of cooked dishes which I am looking forward to trying

Kathryn Sellman: I made a reservation at Tanuki after walking by many times and loving the cozy atmosphere. The chef greets everyone as they enter and was so warm. My parents were visiting, and none of us had much experience with sushi. His wife was our waitress and very kindly guided us through the menu. We ordered what she suggested, and ate every morsel. Food was so fresh and delicious. My parents talked about that meal the rest the trip. Will definitely be back.

Alli McDermott: The best local sushi spot for a casual karage plate and rolls made by the one and only sushi chef and served by his lovely family.

A. Ko: Driven by Yuubi for a while and decided to stop! We had a great experience here and will be back! Appetizers and side salads were pretty decent but wish we had a few more pieces of geso karaage to share! The wagyu and tuna tataki was tasty and worth another try the next time we are there. The rolls were nothing spectacular but standard as far as rolls go. My friend loved the chicken katsu dinner and felt it was perfectly fried for his taste. The poki salad had a lot of different fish in the bowl and was a tad over sauced but otherwise another ok dish. The fish in the Chirashi was good and fresh. We threw in a waffle for dessert since we were curious. It’s a tiny waffle so definitely not something to share.

Alex Wong: Fresh, amazing, and fun! Check out Yuubi if you're looking Japanese food that stands out. We had an awesome experience...in food, service, and atmosphere. By the way...the full size tuna collar? Reserve it...then bring lots of people to help! It's rich, moist, and perfectly grilled. The sashimi was fresh and delicious as well with great selection and variety! Highly recommended!

Cori Coccia: This is my favorite sushi restaurant in San Francisco. And I've tried dozens of them in my 25 years living here! They prepare their dishes with more care, creativity and artful attention to detail than I've seen at other restaurants and they are as delicious as they are beautiful. The staff are kind and efficient, led by skilled chefs and the ambience is spacious and comfortable. I think this place gets overshadowed by more trendy nearby sushi restaurants but it's honesty better! Try it!

Jessica Ponte: The food here is great. We had the nigiri omakase and it did not disappoint. Fish was fresh, flavorful, and decant. We also go the 501 & Warriors roll. Everything was fresh. The rice to fish ratio was perfect. Sometimes you get too much rice, this was not the case. The service was great. Ambiance… well, we came here for the food. Will be coming back for sure!

Camila Vigdor: which makes dining in-person at sushi shio special.

Jean Tsou: We came here during lunch time. Tried 5 pcs and 8 pcs nigiri set. Each nigiri was well seasoned. It’s average quality not really impressed. However, salmon skin and okura dish it’s truly special. Refreshing and tasted just the right amount of seasoning. They offer variety of sake to choose from as well.Down side, not much of service but they added 20% tips automatically at the bill during lunch time. I truly think this is over priced.

Winnie Tsay: We visited during SF Restaurant WeekAnd ordered the 40 lunch setSoupRed & White miso pasteStarterHokkaido scallop in tosazuTatakiSeared Yellowtail in mustard ponzuSushiChefs selected 5 pcs sushi nigiri and salmon rollThe rice is flavored with soy sauceDessertHouse made Panna cottaNot traditional Panna cottage, more like yogurt textureService ⭐️⭐️⭐️Ambiance ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Edison Huang: We came here for the handroll tasting but their website hasn't been updated.. so we ended up doing their regular testing instead. There were some interesting options thrown in. The nigiris felt a little short but we were happy they included uni. The restaurant is small so I recommend making a reservation so you're not stuck with their outdoor seating in the back.20% gratuity is automatically added bringing the total to $234.. not a terrible price given the area.. but definitely not the best value.Big shout-out to Josh who held on to the credit card I left behind!

toofat zh: Updated: The owner of the restaurant reached out with great manner and professional attitude, updating the review based on thatSuper disappointed. We had high hopes for the Valentine's Day dinner and we booked our reservation at 9:30pm a month ago. Arrived at the restaurant and found there were 10 people in front of us, and they all have reservations! Apparently the restaurant is very overbooked for today! WHY YOU HAVE THE RESERVATION SYSTEM IF YOU CAN'T MAKE SURE GUESTS CAN BE SEATED.The mood for the night has been ruined, let alone we spent 20+ minutes trying to find a parking spot on a rainy night!!!All I hope is they can refund my money back

Orlando Morales: I really like this sushi restaurant, it has a good location on one of the main avenues of San Francisco such as Valencia St. It does not have parking but if you are lucky you can park on the street, the place is very nice, it has that vibe of a modern restaurant and cozy, the service is pleasant but they can improve it for a better experience, it is an expensive restaurant if I compare it with other sushi restaurants but each dish is worth it, they are very well prepared, if you order takeout you should know that it will take a while

Ardo Kusuma: , basically it comes with some uni, Ikura, and some sashimi on a bed of sushi rice. It came with some kind of bamboo looking box as well. Don't know whether it's just plastic that looks like bamboo or real bamboo. Though the 2nd time I got the same item for delivery, it shows up in some kind of plastic container instead. Maybe cutting cost? Anyway, not as "presentable" as before. Then for dining in for dinner, we got some hand rolls, only hand rolls. And it was, quite disappointing. Like, all the hand rolls, all I could taste was just their cured cucumber. Whatever you get, the cured cucumber will take over the taste. And the seaweed that they use is also soggy, not crispy like specialized hand rolls restaurants.

Joshua Szepietowski: The BEST fresh sushi.

Makena Kong: This is a great place to get dinner before hitting your favorite bars on Polk. They had the freshest, tastiest sashimi! We got the Spoon Set A, I dont even know what 4 fishes they were but they were all great. Even my friend who doesnt particularly like slimy things enjoyed them. We also got the monkfish liver, toro handrolls, victoria secret roll and the spicy tuna roll.Plus, the waitress was so nice - they were fine with accomadating no cucumbers in our rolls. We came on a rainy Saturday evening so there was about a 5-10 minute wait to get seated - if you add your name to the waitlist on yelp beforehand I'm sure you wouldn't have to wait.

Emmie Chan: Absolutely fantastic and amazing! My husband and I eat a lot of Japanese food, especially sushi. Trust me when I say this place is fantastic! We ordered tempura and the Watermelon Roll--but were astonishing! If it weren't for googling food ideas we wouldn't have found this place because they are a tad hidden on Market St. Great find with great food!

Hal Tily: For the price, this is hands down the best sushi in SF.

Rick Audet: Creative sushi rolls and tasty bento boxes. Love going here for lunch.

Kenneth Bradley: Food was excellent and so was the service. Very fresh.

Tayo Oguntebi: Good service and sushi. Not crowded compared to other sushi spots.

Crystal Man: The foods taste good and fresh, and the chief has passion and experience on the food he made. The restaurant is not fancy but clean, simple, and comfortable.

B. Wai: I came here to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. She had Nirigi Omakase and I had Chef's Omakase. It's only 10 bucks difference. Nirigi Omakase included uni. Chef included strawberry mochi but no uni. The sashimi of fish was fresh and soft. It could melt in your mouth. Toro is my fav. I also ordered wagyu and unagi. Of course, the wagyu beef was tasty, which I prefer to eat it last, so the taste could last longer in your mouth. I love unagi, so it was a must to order. This place was the third restaurant where I could truly have fresh eel. It was so good and I wish I had ordered one more. Very high quality of sashimi. Excellent services. Everything was good, except one point. The suggested tips included taxes. Basically you pay tips for taxes if you go with their suggestion tips. That needs to be changed. Anyways I would come back for more. Thank you.

Khanh Nguyen: Cozy atmosphere, fantastic selection of fish, and friendly chefs. What more can you ask for.

Leighann Krasney: It was our first time visiting, and at the end of our meal we both thought we would definitely return. The sushi was delicious and fresh. The setting was intimate and the service was excellent. I liked how they took the time to let you know exactly what fish was being served to you and whether or not to use soy sauce. The highlight of the meal for me was the A5 Wagyu nigiri. We also really enjoyed our sake, which was the summer seasonal sake.

Forrest Singletary: Highly recommend! Will definitely be back.
