Paul Siegel: The Sutro Baths, located in San Francisco, California, were once a large, privately owned public saltwater swimming pool complex. Built in 1896 by Adolph Sutro, a wealthy entrepreneur and former mayor of San Francisco, the baths were situated in the Outer Richmond District, near the Pacific Ocean.### Key Features:1. **Size and Structure**:- The complex covered three acres and housed six saltwater pools and one freshwater pool.- The pools were constructed with concrete and were filled by the tides of the Pacific Ocean.- It could accommodate up to 10,000 people at a time.2. **Architecture and Design**:- The facility included classic Greek and Roman architectural elements, with large glass ceilings that allowed natural light to illuminate the pools.- There were slides, diving boards, and trapezes for recreation.- The baths featured a museum, galleries with historical artifacts, and various exhibits.3. **Additional Amenities**:- It included 517 private dressing rooms and an amphitheater that could seat up to 3,700 people.- There were also restaurants, arcades, and shops within the complex, making it a comprehensive entertainment venue.4. **Engineering and Innovation**:- The saltwater pools were filled by powerful pumps that could circulate fresh ocean water.- The baths were an engineering marvel of their time, showcasing advanced water filtration and heating systems.### Decline and Closure:- The popularity of the baths waned during the Great Depression, and they were eventually converted into an ice-skating rink.- In 1966, a fire destroyed the main building of the complex, leaving the site in ruins.- Today, the ruins of the Sutro Baths are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and are open to the public as a historical site.### Current Status:- Visitors can explore the remnants of the pools and structures, enjoying the scenic views of the Pacific Ocean.- The site also provides hiking trails, including access to the nearby Cliff House and Lands End.The Sutro Baths remain a significant part of San Francisco's history, representing both the ingenuity and the eventual decline of a grand Victorian-era recreational facility.

WL Tan: This one of our highlights in our SF visit. Appreciate the audio tour. Even though much was said about how terrible the place was, I think Alcaltraz waa much better than some prisons in South East Asia. I recommend that this is a must-go place when in SF.

James Baker: A must place to visit if in San Francisco. There is no admission to the island, however there is a fee to take the boat to the island. The views from Alcatraz are amazing. A FYI there is a lot of walking on the island, a lot of up hill. There are some people movers but it's first come first serve. There is an audio tour of the cell house which is very interesting. Plan about half a day between the ferry to and from and touring the island.

M. S.: This is a beautiful spot on Embarcadero to walk about with an amazing view of the bay bridge in the background. The sculpture is on a grass area, and you'll see lots of people walking about, some just sitting and enjoying the view or some with their pups enjoying the breeze..In any case, this is a beautiful place for a stroll.Paid parking can be expensive, but there is reasonable street parking available if you avoid peak times.

Jesse Lee: What a fun and beautiful piece of artwork. I love this part of San Francisco, it open and clean. Great for walking and biking along the water edge.Visited on Weekday Wait time No wait Reservation recommended No …

Violet Blue: Filming location for Zoey's extraordinary playlist. It was a bigger piece of art than I imagined. It's a very nice location, with a unique skyscraper in the back, green lawns below, and the sea and Bay Bridge in front of you. The weather was nice, so the art looked great. One of the best places to visit in SF.

Veronica: Taking a stroll along the Embarcadero you will find Cupid’s Span. Made of fiberglass and steal, this sculpture stands at 60 feet tall and 140 feet long! The area around the sculpture was clean and open. There’s a nice grassy hill where you can get closer to the bow and relax. It’s a lovely place to share with good company or just yourself.
