The garden is open from **sunrise to sunset**, weather permitting. Please note that the parking lot may flood during winter and spring months, leading to the closure of the area to vehicles.
Visitors are asked to **stay on pathways**, refrain from playing **amplified music**, and not engage in **bikes or sports activities**. Additionally, a **portable restroom** is available for use.
The garden was founded in 1958 by **Charles C. Jensen**, who transformed the 3 1/2 acre property into a beautiful garden by clearing the land and planting various species of plants and trees. After his death, a group of citizens formed a committee to preserve the garden, which eventually became the property of the local park district.
The garden features a **Nature Path for the Blind**, designed for the visually impaired, which allows visitors to experience the garden through touch and fragrance. The garden also has a wide variety of plant species, including **Magnolias**, **Dogwoods**, **Japanese Maples**, and **thousands of Tulips**, making it a beautiful destination, especially during **springtime**.
Visitors can get involved with the garden by volunteering on **Garden Work Days**, which take place on the 2nd Saturday of every month from 9am-1pm. Monetary donations can also be made to support the garden's restoration. Additionally, individuals can fill out a **Volunteer Membership Application** to become a part of the garden's maintenance efforts.
