The park is popular for **swimming**, **surfing**, and **fishing**. You can also enjoy **birdwatching**, as the Ventura River estuary attracts a variety of wildlife including **raccoons**, **songbirds**, and **great blue herons**. Occasionally, you can even spot **dolphins** just offshore.
The park offers **primitive camping** for fully self-contained vehicles only, with 90 campsites available. Additionally, **group camping** is available at the Ventura River Group Camp, which can accommodate groups of up to 30 people for developed tent camping and up to 50 people and 20 vehicles for primitive RV camping.
**Leashed dogs** are permitted in the campground, but not on the beach. However, they are allowed in the day-use area.
The Ventura River Group Camp offers **developed tent campsites** with **restrooms**, **water** (no hook-ups), **fire rings**, **tables**, and a **lighted parking lot**. A **primitive RV camping area** is also available for groups up to 50 people and a maximum RV length of 45 feet.
