This golf course is one of the finest municipal courses in the Southland, featuring large bent grass greens and emerald fairways. The course has undergone significant renovations, including a $6.5 million dollar renovation in 2004, to enhance its natural beauty and playability.
The course was originally designed by William Bell in 1932 and underwent a major renovation in 2004 led by Forrest Richardson. The redesign aimed to preserve the parkland feel of the original course while incorporating modern safety, playability, strategy, and variety considerations.
Golfers can expect a beautiful parkland-style landscape with mature trees lining the fairways and white sand bunkers bordering the greens. The course features subtle undulations and contours, with greens re-sculpted using classic Bell designs.
The course is located in a beachside community with a temperate climate year-round, making it an ideal destination for golfers.
In 2012, the course added platinum paspalum fairways, creating a stunning golf landscape. The course has also undergone significant restoration efforts following a flood, including the removal of mud and debris, and the conditioning of saved turf areas.
