4worldlovers: Located in the heart of Torrance, California, Dr. Kim Music Academy has been a family owned music academy since 2002. We believe it's not just about playing a musical instrument but it's also about learning to enjoy playing the musical instrument. We are proud to say many of our students have received musical awards through the Certificate of Merit and have gone to Universities pursuing in the field of music.

Everyone is unique. We believe each student is unique in how they learn. So we adapt to our students learning methods and embrace their uniqueness.

We provide our students with teachers who adjust to the student's own tempo of learning and create an atmosphere where they can succeed.

Hawaiian-born actress, Leilani Jones Wilmore, won the 1985 Tony Award for her performance on Broadway in the Hal Prince musical, Grind, co-starring Ben Vereen. She created the character of Chiffon in the original cast of Little Shop of Horrors and is featured on the Broadway cast albums of Little Shop and Grind. Leilani has a BA in Music Theory and currently teaches private voice lessons. She taught musical theater performance at the Idyllwild Arts Academy summer program for 6 years and she also works as a Voice Over artist for animation, video games and descriptive narration for the blind and low vision community.

Originally from San Francisco, Soprano, Carol Winston, studied at University of California, Santa Barbara, earning a B.A. in Music.


Carol has been teaching voice and piano lessons to students of all ages since 2010. She was on the voice faculty at Idyllwild Summer Arts Festival in 2005. Carol began her vocal training in high school, where she sang in music theater productions and with choirs. She began opera training in college and continues to perform with regional opera companies.


Carol has worked with various companies, including Los Angeles Opera, Orange County Opera, Guild Opera, and Southland Sings, bringing educational opera and music theater to elementary age students throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino Counties. Outreach roles include “Marie” (Daughter of the Regiment), “Gretel” (Hansel and Gretel), “Little Missy” (Mission Nutrition), “Sugah” (Indy Jo) and “Ginger” (The Night Harry Stopped Smoking). She played the title role in “Little Red Riding Hood,” and originated the title role of “Estrella” in Guild Opera’s bilingual children’s opera. She began studying piano at age 10.


Recent operatic roles include “Violetta” in La Traviata, “Diana” in Orpheus in the Underworld, “Susanna” in Le Nozze di Figaro, “Adele” in Die Fledermaus “Frasquita” in Carmen and “Zerlina” in Don Giovanni with San Gabriel Valley based opera companies. A fan of Zarzuela (Spanish Operetta), Carol sang “Duchess Carolina” in Luisa Fernanda and “Marte” in Duron’s Salir el Amor del Mundo at the Broad Stage in Santa Monica and has performed in Zarzuelas with the Jarvis Conservatory in Napa.

A Gilbert and Sullivan specialist, Carol toured nationally with Opera a la Carte as “Mabel” in The Pirates of Penzance, “Yum-Yum” in The Mikado, “Gianetta” in The Gondoliers, the title role in Patience and “Laeticia” in The Zoo. She was the soprano soloist for Ballet San Jose in a ballet version of The Pirates of Penzance.

Solo concert work includes Orff’s Carmina Burana, Mozart’s, Exultate Jubilate, Mozart Requiem, Mozart Vespers, Beethoven Chorale Fantasy, Bruckner Te Deum and Vivaldi Beatus Vir.

Director, Michelle Bourque has over 24 years experience as a performer soloist, assistant music director, conductor, teaching artist, author and educator in recorder, voice, theory, piano and choir.

She has taught with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Ed. Div., the Music Center of Los Angeles, Santa Monica College and more.

She performed as Cassandra throughout the U.S. with True Colors Edutainment; some of her favorite roles include, Maria in West Side Story, Louisa in the Fantastiks, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute and Olympia, Giulietta & Antonia in Tales of Hoffman.

In collaboration with the fantastic non-profit, Mariachi Academy of Carson, the Academy won Best Performance, at the National Chamber of Commerce’s Mariachi Festival.

As Musical Director in 8 productions in collaboration with RUHS’s, theater department including online musicals Emma and The Addams Family, she was nominated as Musical Director of the Year for the Drowsy Chaperone.

It is a joy and honor to serve our students, families and community through music, providing unique and FUN experiences.

Our students have performed at the James R. Armstrong theater, the South Coast Botanic Gardens, Art Galleries in Rancho Palos Verdes, Torrance Woman’s Club, Sunrise Senior Living Community, Carson Chamber of Commerce, Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce and the Palos Verdes Fair.
