Visitors can make same-day reservations for campsites and lodging, and bookings may extend from the arrival date to the desired departure date-based on availability and the park's maximum stay rules.
The parking lots at Sycamore Cove, Mugu Beach, and La Jolla Canyon open at 8am and close at sunset, while the campground gates at Sycamore Canyon and Thornhill Broome open at 8am and close at 10pm, with no entry after 10pm.
Dogs are allowed in the campground and day-use areas, but not on trails. However, dogs on a leash are allowed in the park's day use areas, campgrounds, and beaches.
The maximum trailer height is 13'6, and the maximum combined length for vehicles and trailers is 31 feet. Visitors with vehicles and trailers exceeding a combined total length of 31 feet will be denied entry, and refunds will not be issued for camping and/or parking fees.
The park features five miles of ocean shoreline, rocky bluffs, sandy beaches, sand dunes, rugged hills, and uplands, as well as 70 miles of hiking trails, swimming, body surfing, and surf fishing. The park also includes the jagged pinnacles of the Boney Mountains State Wilderness Area.
