This ecological reserve features a variety of **habitats**, including **open water**, **mudflats**, **salt marsh**, **coastal dunes**, **seabird nesting islands**, **riparian**, and **freshwater marsh**.
This ecological reserve is home to a diverse range of **avian species**, including **Ridgway's rail**, **Western snowy plover**, **California least tern**, and many others. You can also spot **land mammals** like **coyote**, **raccoon**, and **deer mice**, as well as **reptiles** like **California legless lizard** and **Southern Pacific rattlesnake**.
Visitors can enjoy a **4-mile network of public hiking trails**, including **scenic overlooks**, as well as an **interpretive center** operated by the conservancy. You can also take advantage of **free docent-led tours** provided by three non-government organizations.
