Connor Gillis: I finally decided to learn double bass, and when I started to look for a shop imagine my surprise to find a respected string instrument store right in my neighborhood! I wasn't sure if they carried basses, since all the reviews only talk about violins, violas, and cellos. But they do have a large selection of basses - both to rent and purchase - in a separate building in the back. You need to ask to be shown the collection. The bass I rented is very well set up, has good sound, and illustrates that Kamimoto clearly knows what they are doing. They offer a rental contract where up to 6 months of rental payments can be applied towards any instrument in the shop, not just the one you rented. Considering the offerings in their shop, this is a great deal.I showed the bass I rented to my teacher and she remarked that it's a great quality instrument and asked me where I rented it from so she can direct more of her students there. I highly recommend Kamimoto for all your upright bass needs!
Wei-Ai Tai: Small family-owned and operated store for violins, violas, and cellos. It has a wide selection of new and used string instruments, along with a variety of cases and other musical peripherals. Very friendly and helpful staff, and they also offer services to fix or touch up your instruments. Street parking can be hard to find, though.
Enson Zheng (Wyvernb0rg): The people at Kamimoto are so kind and helping, stepping into their shop never feels nervous since you always know that welcoming staff will always help you with kindness and respect
Julia Tat: I highly recommend this place for your string instruments. I got two cellos here, they are in good quality, and the business owner has more than decade experience in the field. They will explain to you everything in detail with honor suggestions.
Tin Tin Wisniewski: Amazing selection and service! They are very knowledgeable about all strings. My son rented a string bass!
Christina Perez: I wanted to have my Cello custom modified to meet my physical needs. I have played it for the last 15 years as best as I could as it had been manufactured. The Craftsman at Kamimoto String Instruments did a great job customizing it and for the first time my Cello really is mine. Forever grateful.
John Ward: Went in with my daughter to get her violin restrung. He made a few recommendations, and we were in and out in less than 10 minutes.
Maria Plancarte: They serve very well and have good violin content
Jane Kientzy: Amazing experience ! Classy place and very friendly owners
Jesus Palomino: There's always someone ready to help. Friendly and quality instruments...
Hung Nguyen: I came to buy a string for my son's violin. The lady owner installed the string and also tuned the violin for me. Very nice.
Qun Cao: Great service!
William Nguyen: Amazing store, I always come here when I need strings. Amazing prices and extremely high quality.

Mark R: Large brass inventory. Parking a bit tight.
Matthew Yu: Had a great experience trying out some alto saxophones at the store today! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and even lended me a mouthpiece to use since I didn't have one. Would highly recommend!
Becky Castillo: Nice small music store that had a French horn we could rent. They were very helpful in helping to find a private teacher and have lesson rooms adjacent to them.
Fiona Seah: Rented a clarinet from the store. The person at the counter is knowledgeable about the instrument, got use everything we needed and processed our transaction swiftly. Returning was painless. Parking is a little challenging but good experience over all.

Thomas Knight: Beautiful store and amazing service. Owner goes out of his way to help out.
Kevin Deibert: Love it ! Lots of really cool stuff ! I was like "a kid in a candy store" !
Stephany Haskins: We have rented 2 instruments from this store, a flute and a violin. Both experiences have been great. The monthly fee is reasonable and the staff is very helpful.

Johnny Huang: I bought a cello from here. Before COVID hits, I brought my teacher to this place. He tried every single one they had there, and recommended the one I am having right now. And he told me: for the rest of your learning journey, you will most likely no longer need to upgrade your cello anymore. And I really love the back flaming pattern of it, and the great sound projection, which actually makes me worry if my neighbor would complain too loud when I practice at home.
B.W. Kang: This is a simple musical instrument store.I bought a violin.
Money Penny: Consistent quality and workmanship.
Tiffany Kilpatrick-Winter: The sound is superior
Corey W: Great thank you guys I look forward to playing it.....
Xiao_teaching Violin: One of my very talented 5 years old boy needed a 1/4 violin. So when I was in a Chicago violin shop last summer I happened to fall in love with a Scott Cao:s violin. I brought it home for him and we love the little violin! It has such powerful yet sweet sound🎻 It is fantastic for such small violin. Now I am asked to get a 1/2 violin I am hoping to get one the same.
pavan anumula: for someone whose kid picked up violin as the music instrument as part of school curriculum and has no idea about violins, i would expect the person in this shop to have spend some time guiding us. they did not have any starter violins under 660 which is a bummer. i went to kamimoto and they have a 6 month rental that could be used towards a purchase which is a great option for someone in our situation.
Damo liu: Nice staff and excellent service

MJ Fitch: Rented an upright bass here for a few months, best repairman and best customer service. Many thanks to everyone here!
Michael Bruce: I recently brought in a guitar to get fixed up and brought back to life after being abandoned in the corner of a classroom for years. Not only did they bring it back - it sounds great! - but the pricing was more than reasonable. The communication was great; someone kept me in the loop on its progress throughout.Ill be coming here again for future repairs on my instruments and will definitely be looking to shop here first for my next guitar. Ada Chu: Great classes offered here. I also love the wide range of instruments, music, and other items available in the store. The staff is also incredibly friendly and welcoming 3
Sharon Wienhoff: I went here looking for special drum sticks. They did not stock that type but the owner went the extra mile spending several minutes looking on the computer and in catalogs to find some. After he found out that I was a Taiko drummer he introduced me to some new ear plugs for musicians. Great customer service.
Bjc Cook: Friendly service and wife selection
Ziya Kerimov: Very friendly and helpful staff. Homely and nice. Will definitely be back.

Lawrence Troxell: Jeff did a bow re-hair and added a new bow grip for an 80 year old bow and also some gluing of the top piece of my 90 year old Guadagnini violin copy. The luthiers at J.K. White Violins also cleaned up the varnish to remove dirt that was getting embedded. They were also able to straighten the bow. The work they do is excellent and they have great knowledge of how to care for older violins. I have been to many violin shops for close to 50 years and I think J.K. Violins rank among the best for expertise in care and repair of violins.
Josh Chang: Best bow repair & rehair I’ve ever had. They also set up my Italian cello sound to sound at its best, and also repaired my French bow.Jeff and Vance are at the top of their game, and I feel lucky to know them!
Landa Peake: Jeff is honest and trustworthy. He does beautiful and flawless work. I am very satisfied and extremely grateful for his work on my violins. Thank you Jeff!
Renée Schell: I inherited my grandfather’s cello and Jeff did an amazing job restoring it. He is very detail-oriented and talked me through a thorough inspection of the cello. Jeff is super knowledgeable and was able to tell me where in Germany the cello was made. Jeff gave me options on equipment and possible upgrades every step of the way, explained differences in price for each option, and offered excellent service for a reasonable price. Jeff did all this amazing work over the Christmas and New Year’s holidays and had my cello ready even before the quoted date.
Sofia Fojas: Jeff is knowledgeable in his craft and he has great customer service. His prices are reasonable too.
Agnes Chu: Has some amazing restored violins and a wide selection to choose from.
Santhosh Kumar Manivannan: Amazing service 😀
WL: Good service. Great prices
derek wong: I've been going to Jeff for violin maintenance work for the last couple of years. He is super attentive and his prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend his services to my fellow violinist friends.
MaryAnne Kochenderfer: Great collection of beautifully restored violins.
Xue Yang: Jeff did an amazing job rehair my bowl. He finished it in a day so I did not miss any practice time. He did such a fantastic job that I can hear the difference in playing. His price is really fair, lower than the store I went in Atlanta. Overall highly recommended!
David: I am extremely grateful for the attention to detail and masterful work done at J. K. White Violins inside of the Starving Musician in Santa Clara.I went in for a stripped eyelet and Jeff was very knowledgeable and patient in explaining how changes in the weight distribution and camber can unlock the potential of antique and modern professional level bows. He professionally restored my H. R. Pfretzschner violin bow and it has never felt or played better! Jeff did exceptional work on the tip plate, re-camber, silver winding, grip and re-hair of my violin bow. The turn around time was quick, communication and service was flawless. Would go back and fully trust Jeff with my beloved instrument/bows. Thank you!
Nick Vaquera: Top guy, gave me a fair price for what I had was completely honest even though we worked across the state. There isn't a shop in Texas who knows more, or at least I've known. I want to shake your hand and thank you!
Kristan8 “kristanle8” Le: Jeff was very helpful in answering all my questions. He also allowed plenty of time for me to get familiar with the instruments. I just got a beautiful violin from him as well as some very interesting knowledge about the art of violin making. Highly recommended.
Gene Capeder: Best of the Best
Amir Y: and Vernon are amazing. Both helped me a couple of times in trying and understanding Antique violins better. I have visited and tried different violin stores in the South Bay area. If you are searching for antique and seasoned violins, this is the place to go. They do a lot of violin repair, graduating, upgrades etc. too. They moved location rather recently so note the new address.
Janine Sahm: I am a new violinist who needed a more comfortable chin rest. Jeff was helpful, personable, and took the time to make sure I had a chin rest that was right for me. It was a positive experience.
Nancy Young: great quality and attention to detail!

P. T.: . Thank you, Guitar Wars!
Dan Sanchez: I've been here a few times and bought some guitars over the years. My go to spot when I want something I need. Usually find some hidden gems. Plus a starwars theme big awesome.
Jazlyn Herrera: I had a great experience here!definitely will come again the guy was very nice and helpful
Reza A: It's one of the best guitar shops around. Real nice owner. A super humble person. If you're a Star Wars fan, then this is the place to go. If you're not a Star Wars fan, you should still go. He has everything at reasonable prices.
Henry Proctor: My wife and I went to this shop after seeing some beautiful vintage Japanese classical guitars on their Reverb page. I asked to demo four different ones, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. I had brought two electric guitars with me intending to trade one or both if I liked what I played, and we ended up making a deal I was satisfied with. The owner, Carlos, is a great guy. Thanks again! Will definitely be back if I'm looking to trade something else.
bill whiteside: Awesome Store! Very friendly and lots of stuff
Ray Parga: Very cool shop with plenty to see!
Armando Vasquez: Guitar Wars is AWESOME! This is now my go-to shop
Adam Newman: This is not a major chain, doesn't look like, it doesn't feel like it, doesn't act like it. If you're looking for 100 guitars in glass cases that no one else can afford, this isn't your place. This place is rock. This place is punk. This place is nerd. I F'n love this place. The owner is great in all sorts of ways, the stock is eclectic, and has a ton of interesting things that are probably off of your radar.I like to think that the inception of this place was a rebirth of a legit music scene in the south bay.
Angel Mendoza: Good place if you are looking for everything related to music, I recommend it
Alexandre Nguyen: Fantastic service! Set up my acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, and ukulele over the weekend for extremely reasonable prices.

Emery D’Mello: This shop had the violin strings I needed. The place is not very organized for the customer to shop in, but the owner/manager is quite knowledgeable. Definitely many options here, great mom and pop shop for orchestral instruments.
Mike Long: The owner is Randy.
Yentin Yang: , it’s clean, bright, organized, and conveniently located.Unlike what other reviews said, he doesn’t charge us anything to borrow the violins for home trial.Randy has many violin, cello, and guitar selections from beginner to professional level. He also responds to the texts very quickly. I highly recommend his store to families who are looking to buy a violin, cello, or guitar.
Sterling Gerritz: Randy the owner is friendly and extremely knowledgeable ... This is the place to go for higher end string instruments. Love that this store offers 100% trade in value so that you can continually upgrade your instrument as you improve as a musician
Marco Vinicio Bazzotti: Great place for choosing a concert instrument
Sean Gherardi: If you are looking for a high end classical guitar, this is the place to go. I went in and talked with the owner and tried out a few guitars. He is extremely knowledgeable and understands what each player is looking for in an instrument: tone, price and playability which suits their personal tastes. He also has a great policy on exchanges if you ever want to upgrade from something you bought from him in the past.
Benjamin Dean: Great selection of top-quality instruments.
Stephany 'Alyx' Huizar-Guarneros: Today I came in to buy first violin after 1 introduction class. I came here because it is a locally owned store near by and honestly best decision I made. I came in around 11pm and it was stuffed with various gorgeous instruments lining the walls.I called in asking for a beginners viloin with at budget of 400-500$. Randy got to work and we talked about my class and why I started learning. We landed on a beautiful violin made in 1996. He even let me play a couple notes then demonstrated tuning. At that point I discovered he spoked Japanese and Spanish! After I introduced myself in both languages we switched between all 3 for the remaining of the time.He showed me how to care for my bow and got a case for me. Randy also explained the 100% trade in process for me. We then talked about different violins type and Guarneri's violin. Once we finished out the payment we said our goodbyes.Thank you Randy!!!
Dave Ruigh: . Trolling music stores in the bay area for the last 40 years, I don't know how I managed to miss this place , but I'm glad I found it. It's a local treasure.

Kevin steered us in the right direction, making sure we were getting what we were looking for as we are true beginners with no knowledge of electric guitars. Vaibhav Vaish: Welcoming to beginner violinists: they have a long list of local teachers, rentals in all sizes and accessories available. They also have cellos and violas.
Tomer M: Great service and reasonable prices. We took rentals of both a violin and a cello and they were in good shape.
Mahtab Sabet: The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable!
Bernard Yen: Patient and courteous staff. We came to get a bow rehaired as well as look for a bow upgrade. We didn't feel any sales pressure and got good personal space to test the bows on our own.
Bob Price: friendly knowledgeable staff who graciously help beginning students on their way and expertly help experienced players get to the next level.
Annie Chang (九逸音樂藝術整合): Highly recommended this violin shop. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The instruments were well maintained. I rented a conservatory level cello and I was very satisfied. I would recommend this shop to my friends and students, and I will definitely come back next time if I need to rent a cello again.
Sue Yang: I am a violin teacher from First Movement Music Academy in Sunnyvale. I have always recommended my students to come here for any violin issues from rental, buying to fixing. The service here is always good and professional.
Ellender: were incredibly knowledgeable and provided a lot of options I could choose from. The luthier who worked on my cello was able to fix it quickly and I get my cello back sooner than expected. And I'm so happy ☺️ it sounds so much better than when I took it in!
F C: This is definitely one of the best strings store in the Bay Area. Their service is top notch and staffs are super friendly. We've been renting from Heaney for years with 3 kids. Now, we're in the buying process and Heaney Violin had allowed us to take out instrument to try for 1 week each time. Trying without pressure! It's a big decision and an investment so they are super helpful and never rush us into making that decision. Kudos to the staffs and this entire establishment. They deserve all the business here!! Thanks!
