Botox is the trade name of Botulinum Toxin Type A, a purified toxin produced by the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. By using extremely small doses of Botox injected directly into a specific muscle, the action of the muscle is weakened. As a result, the problem the muscle causes, such as a twitch, spasm, or wrinkle line, is eliminated.

Botox is most commonly injected into the crow's feet, forehead wrinkles, and frown lines between the eyebrows. Frown lines are caused by the action of muscles called the glabellar complex.
