Eric Bodtker: After visiting many local assisted living facilities for a family member, we decided Belmont was the right place. It’s in a very convenient location near Santana Row. What impresses us the most was the professionalism of all the staff. Everyone we met before and after the move has always been helpful and in good spirits. We ate at the restaurant they have a few times and I was impressed with the quality of the food. A special thank you to Yaseen who helped educate and guide us through onboarding our family member. We’ve never had to do anything like this before, so are extremely grateful for him being there for us. And for our family member who moved there, well he couldn’t be happier. He’s been enjoying the activities they offer, making new friends, and is getting better each week thanks to their talented physical rehabilitation crew.

Ann Jordan: The logistics of moving my 97 year old mother from one assisted living facility to another were overwhelming enough in normal times without the added challenge of doing it in the middle of a pandemic, but our family is so glad we chose Merrill Gardens Willow Glen. I truly can't say enough about how helpful, responsive, compassionate, and professional all of the staff at Merrill Gardens has been throughout the entire process, starting with Community Relations Director Andy Anaya, continuing with Managing Director Grace Komasaka, then Carina Berumen in the Garden House memory care unit, nurse MJ, and everyone in between. They have been wonderful.

Martin Liu: My sister and brother-in-law moved into two rooms in the Garden House in October, 2018 at the time while there was not a general manager nor a resident nurse in Merrill Garden. Even under a lot of stress due to lack of a full staff, I found that everyone tried very hard to take care of the residents and to satisfy family member’s requests. Within a short time, they hired nurse Betty, med tech MJ, and an interim general manager Wilson. Betty and MJ are very friendly and work very hard to satisfy the resident’s needs, a sharp contrast to my previous experiences at the other location in Campbell. General Manager, Wilson, is a nice person, easy to work with, and always has the benefits of residents in mind. Recently, after my inquiry about moving my sister and her husband into a single room, Wilson took the initiative to convince the residence in a larger room to move into a smaller one so that my sister and brother-in-law can share this larger room instead of staying in two separate small ones, which saved them a couple of thousand dollars each month. Under Wilson’s leadership, I can see that the condition of Merrill Garden at Willow Glenn is rapidly improving.

Debra Spencer: As is with all businesses, changing of management staff is a challenge. Such has been the case with Merrill Gardens Willow Glen over the last year. One poor Director hiring can take its toll very quickly. Getting that Director to leave and find a good replacement also takes time and effort. I and my uncle lived through the process. What I found important that once identified, Corporate took corrective action, immediately placing an intermediate manager in place to correct damage that was done and to start a search for a 5 star replacement Director. My uncle is in the Memory Care Unit and I could not be more pleased with his care. Staff attitudes have been redirected into the needs of the residents, open communication with the families, a clear definition to all parties of what the goals and standards are, staff are cross trained, a new proactive RN has been hired. The residents are well cared for, the place is immaculately clean, staff smile and take that "extra" to spend time with the residents and listen. Activities and entertainment are scheduled daily. In Memory Care an Activities Coordinator has been hired that is trained in Dementia Seniors Stimulation, to exclusively work with these residents..The Facility Director sets the tone and standards and insist the staff comply to them or HR takes appropriate action for correction. It is not business as "casual whatever you feel like doing" , but rather it is business handled in a professional manner as defined by policy. I personally like the Director's fair and no nonsense approach, and his willingness to fill the gap when staffing manpower conflicts occur. i.e., driving the resident bus to an activity.I'm at the facility constantly and at different times night and day and I can attest to the fact this is a wonderful facility for Assisted Living and Memory Care.

Diane Ryan: My mom was diagnosed with a sudden acute form of vascular dementia which caused rapid decline of brain function. Initially she was extremely mobile, wandering around continually, and was prescribed many medications that required meticulous management. Most other memory care facilities would have rejected my mom immediately, given the intensive care she required. Directors Paula and Sherry at Oakmont of San Jose not only accepted my mom, but gave her exceptional care. Paula worked with me to understand my mom’s needs and immediately set me up with necessary resources. She was very kind, caring, and sincere. Right away Paula introduced me to Sherry, director of the Oakmont memory care residence. Just like Paula, Sherry was genuinely warm, friendly, and compassionate toward me and my mom. They both set me up with their cell phone numbers, and urged me to call anytime. I was kept informed of my mom’s condition on a daily basis, and they gave me encouragement, advice and hugs. Sherry and her team are so upbeat and caring, that the memory care residence feels like a loving family. Two or more of my family members visited my mom every day, and we witnessed how all the staff not only cared for physical needs, but enjoyed each and every person there. The staff always offer smiles, and often share laughs with residents. Even when my mom was not able to talk, Riva, Monica, Angelica and the others spoke to her kindly. They complimented her, invited her to activities, asked about her interests, and made sure she sat with a new friend at each meal. As my mom’s condition worsened, Riva and the other caregivers kept an extra close eye on her even while expertly caring for all the other residents there. Caring for folks with cognitive decline is extremely demanding, yet Sherry and her staff carry out the duties of feeding, moving, dressing, and personal hygiene with patience and understanding. The caregivers treated my mom and each person there as if they were their own family member who needed help and deserved to enjoy life. The staff encouraged my mom to join in on games of black jack, chair fitness, reading the daily newsletter and singing songs from her youth. Even small details, such as my mom needing a soft blanket to cushion her head or offering her jello and some water when she didn’t seem to want her lunch, were always attended to by the caring staff. The highly skilled, compassionate, loving care that my mom received from Sherry and her team made my mom’s last months of life the best it could possibly be!

Hang Hoang: One of the things I have come to appreciate most about Oakmont is how they keep my father mentally and physically active all day. When he first arrived, he just wanted to be in bed all day. They eased him out of his comfort zone, placing him in group activities that kept him from being inactive and depressed.My father's physical therapist also noticed his health and credited Oakmont with a good program for keeping residents healthy. We love what you do for our Dad, Oakmont. Please keep up the good work!

Mark Helm: My aunt has lived here for 13 months and my mother lived here for 7 months before she passed away. The staff and management have always been kind, supportive and available. Even on their days off. Aldi and Paula have always gone above and beyond to reply to texts and emails very quickly. And always willing to talk to me when I'm onsite in person. Mona the activities director is full of energy and love for the residents. The residents themselves were welcoming of my family members and always have a kind word to share. It is truly a blessing to have found Oakmont for the older ladies in our lives!

The new Executive Director Paula and new Maintenance Director Travis are new at their jobs, but are doing an excellent job. My mother has been in assisted living and overall it has worked out for her better than I could have imagined.

I so appreciate the excellent Memory Care Director, Richard Olson, because of his caring nature, depth of knowledge about dementia, and practical wisdom from years of experience. I can see my mom is in good hands with Richard and his attentive and friendly staff. Also, they have a lovely and large garden area just for the memory care patients to walk and enjoy being outside.

Stephanie Williams: This is a really beautiful assisted living facility and the back garden area is really pretty and relaxing. All the staff are super friendly and welcoming and seem to always be in good spirits. They partner with Furry Friends to bring pretty assisted therapy to the residents and are really caring and want to make sure the residents are happy and comfortable.

Rick Parsagian: Atria Willow Glen has been absolutely wonderful. At a very stressful time for the family, and in a difficult situation, they took care of my Mother's needs and the "family stress" by not only taking care of her, but also worked as a team to take care of the entire family's needs. The beautiful grounds brought us here but the staff are the folks that make it a great home.After approximately six months of care for my Mother I am truly amazed at the care and love Mom has been given at Atria. The decision to place her there was certainly the right choice. My appreciation for the staff and management just continues to grow.

Not your regular sales individual, he cared about grandmother and focused on her as an individual and that made us truly decided on Sunrise.Assisted Living Supervisor Isabel & Wellness Nurse Reggie provided beyond outstanding care, from updating in a very timely manner of any change of condition in grandmothers health, to managing her medications to every small detail regarding her care, they made sure to always be on top and always communicate every detail to myself and my family.Frontline care team members assisted grandmother in every way assisting her with her day to day needs, not only physical but emotionally, from a smile to a hug to a “how are you doing today”, they cared for her in such a way that made grandmothers transition and time at Sunrise very much at home, making grandmother feel like she was important, gave her that sense of independence back.Jastine in memory care was knowledgeable in regards to Memory Care and truly cares for her residents as well. When the time came that grandmother was at a stage of having to transition to memory care, Jastine gave us information and most importantly she walked us step by step how to cope and be there & how to manage that transition when decision was to be made. Needless to say, she was very experienced and made the transitioning more than pleasant.Chef Jose in dining was always outdoing himself with his recipes, Sunday brunches, communicating with each resident in the dining room, inquiring how their food was, and always welcomed any suggestion his way, the first couple days grandmother moved in he stopped by her room, and got to know her, grandmother was Italian & asked if their was anything specific she would like to have prepared to let him know, that made grandmother very happy to know she could have a little slice of Italy here at Sunrise.Program Director Carmen, is very lively, active person whom cares for her residents in a way that was very heartwarming, she always made sure grandmother was active, participating in activities, hosting all types of happy hour events, family game nights, brunches, etc, she takes pride in her job and keeping everyone active and happy. She made journals with grandmothers that made it special to learn about grandmothers life in way that we had never known, making much more special when grandmothers passing having a keep sake of her time at Sunrise 5x more special. She truly happiness and brought the best out in grandmother.Executive Director Jessica, made our time with Sunrise more than amazing. She truly made us feel at ease, weekly communicating to see how we were doing, communicating about any community policies or changes, updating us as well of any change in mother’s condition, she always made herself available and open to any comment/question/concern we always had. Her dedication to Sunrise, and each and every one of the residents there was outstanding. She takes time when she walks down the halls to greet and take a moment to chat with residents, asking them about their day, how they are feeling & wellbeing, even when she say any family member she would do the same, truly shows how invested she is in her community,Overall, grandmothers time at Sunrise was undoubtedly the best decision we made, we knew she was in great hands of individuals who showed us & her nothing but excellent care & love.

Dianna Kaffka-Weber: This facility used to host my company prior to COVID-19 for administrator classes. As an outside observer I was able to see the care given to the residents and how happy the residents looked when nobody from their family was there. The food always looked and smelled delicious and there was always some type of activity going on. As an experienced provider of senior care I typically see residents hiding in their rooms and only coming out for meals in many communities. That is not the case here. Jessica, the administrator, and her entire team are very involved on a daily basis with the residents. The facility is always clean and the bathrooms smell fresh. The most important thing I see are the residents out in common areas talking with people and they look happy. When I ask them if they're happy they always tell me yes. A few months ago I had an opportunity unfortunately to refer this community to a family member by marriage for her mothers end of life care. The future resident was ready to move in when she contracted COVID-19 and passed at the hospital. Yaseen was great in following up when needed. Another thing that I notice is the staff has been there a very long time, which in the senior care industry is not the norm. The leadership must be doing something right to retain great employees.

It’s been an incredible experience to see how many of the residents continue to improve their health and turn out to the fitness classes. All this wouldn’t have been made possible had it not been for Allison. Because of her it’s now been over 1 year of continued health and fitness classes for the residents at this community. Thank you Allison for all that you do! 💪

Rebecca Williams: We have been looking for assisted living for my father, at least temporarily, and have been extremely impressed with the friendliness and responsiveness of the staff at Atria Evergreen Valley. The residence is very clean and well managed and there are numerous activities throughout the day. Further, they are open to residents organizing new activities to suit their interests. It seems to be an excellent place for family members who could benefit from a little more help in their daily lives.

Julie Diazoni: We moved mom into memory care about a month ago, coming from another Bay Area Atria. She is happier than ever before and we’ll cared for. I don’t worry about her at all on days when I cannot visit. I’m very impressed with staff from hands on care to office management. The food looks and smells great too. A+

Diana Lydgate: You can live more independently in one of the five story buildings from studio size to two bedrooms, and there are cottages that are more like a house with a larger space and a patio along the entire back of the cottage, plus an area in the front where you can create your own lovely garden of beauty.If you are 55 or older, you can live here and have an independent life, at a fraction of the cost of a rental in Santa Clara of the same size. You could work, come home and it really wouldn’t be that different from living in any other apartment. Onr of my favorite features is the large acreage that the various buildings are located with lovely huge redwood trees, grassy areas throughout, lovely flowers resident tend in front of all the buildings, a fish pond pond and lots of shrubs and treed. When I came to visit the first time, I fell in love with the nature environment upon which the buildings are located. It’s not like being stuck in a motel or hotel style residence. You truly have your space if you choose that as what's best for you;. You can be completely independent. Many people enjoy friends and do activities together
