Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library: what do users think?

jennifer adams: The Dr. Martin Luther King Library has given me hundreds and hundreds of hours of pleasure and joy. The atmosphere is bright and welcoming, the librarians are professional, helpful, and cheerfully friendly. My only negative feedback is regarding the removal of comfy chairs--when will they be reintroduced? They were removed due to the pandemic, but now that the worst of it has passed, can we not have them back? It was my custom to sit and read a bit before checking out books. The condition of my back and neck make the hard chairs extremely difficult in which to get comfortable and indulge in the best past time ever; reading.Thank you for all your service; thank you for the joy.Sincerely yours,Jennifer R. AdamsPatron since 2011

Chris D: Nicest library in the bay!

twinkle chirvi: It is a great place to sit and study , even my daughter is in SJSU and she loves sitting there and studying

Janet: This is really the first time I’ve gotten to get a good look at San Jose. I’m impressed. It’s a beautiful city, but it’s approachable. Friendly. You don’t hesitate to talk to someone or ask a question. I like it.

Dr Laval Duke Vallare: Convenient for the SJSU Students.

Alex: This is the best place in downtown San Jose! Not only do they have a great selection of books and media, but they have public computers, a teen center with a makerspace, and great spots to study. The library staff themselves are super friendly, although the campus police usually patrol inside and they aren’t as nice.

Nick S: Nice place to study or work quietly. Some nice views of campus if you know where to go.

Ariel Jacinto: Great atmosphere for relaxing and reading.

Joanna Vii: Amazing place for a branch library! A lot of spaces to work, quiet, general and community. Seating is comfortable design with nailon ribbons and a few sofa chairs.Bathrooms are clean and accessible and the library is organized very well and the different genres of books are easily seen as the flags are hanging from the ceilings.Lighting of the library is great, there is a lot of natural light coming in from the wide windows of the library. The book collection is amazingly extensive for a branch library and the space and building is well designed for a library. The library has also friends booksale, so people can also buy books.Free WiFi is great and the digital endpoints have different services available who needs to use a computer. Thanks for a great experience! With Love,Joanna

Sparky Chambers: and a quiet place to work. Got an individual desk in the study area. Beautiful views, as library is on second floor above parking. Perfect.

Amy Barnwell: This is a great place to pick up a good book for free. You can order books through their library app and they'll hold them for you to pick up. They also have books for sale for a nominal fee. The staff are nice and helpful. It's a quiet and peaceful library. Pick up a book before you make a visit to Kaiser hospital or before you head across the street to 24 hour fitness.

Timothy Riener: I like this library in that it's well-organized and spacious and well-lit and clean, etc, etc, etc. And in addition the staff tends to be very helpful friendly and knowledgeable. The selection of media, both books and DVDs and other such items, is fairly large by comparison to many other libraries. Plus you can get the resources of the entire San Jose library system shipped to this location for pick up.

Sergio Odintsov: Working on Sundays

Ivonne Gamez: Had to renew my card and was the easiest thing ever. Gave it a 5 stars because it's a Library of course!

Tanequa Bailey: Love the library. The staff here are very kind and professional!

Bryan Pham: The bathroom facilities are maintained very well and as a student at the nearby highschool, it is highly accessible. The toilet seats remain clean and there is almost always an available stall to use. Other than a few negative experiences such as one out of the three stall's seats being gone for an extended period of time, the BCC is a reliable place to get your business done! While the door hooks are very useful, the stalls lack surfaces to place items and the toilet paper appears to be 1-2 ply. Would highly recommend this place for its sanitary practices in and outside of the restrooms!

Chieu N.: I work at this library and it is the most awesome place to work at. All staff are nice and providing quality customers services. Most customers are kind. On Tuesday 3/5/2024 a library patron named Sonia and her husband just came to praise our staff, Veronica. She said "Veronica is going above and beyond" to provide her a exemplary customer service.

Polewas Reuse: I often come to this library to find a peaceful place to study, and it never disappoints. The service here is excellent – the librarians maintain a tranquil environment perfect for focused learning. The quality of the study spaces, from the comfortable chairs to the ample desk space, is top-notch. Considering it's all free of charge, the value this library provides is unmatched.

Whitney Martins: It looks doom and gloom on the outside. The entrance is in need of a good clean, but I understand it's because of the constant homeless people in the parking lot.But it's surprisingly cute and cozy inside. Staff members are friendly. The kids' play area is pretty small, but it's enough since it doesn't seem to get crowded.

Alexander Pushkin: Great library to come and study

BeCasMap: A great place for quiet relaxation. suitable for reading, working, studying. Parking is a bit complicated and feels unsafe because there are many strangers outside. I came to use the printer and the staff was very enthusiastic. Printers here are not free. Extremely friendly staff happily helped me with everything

David Boeger: SJPL is generally a great library system, and this branch, in particular, is really amazing. You can, of course, order items from throughout the system. Given that context, I think their in-branch selection makes a ton of sense and is very space-efficient. They certainly do have a large selection of English-language items, but they also have lots of Vietnanese, Spanish, and Chinese catering to the local population. They also have a large kid selection, as well as dedicated toys, play areas, and touch screens for using the provided ABCmouse membership. I really like that they have a variety of computer stations for different needs. They offer a lot of community services like events, training, etc.My only gripe is that the last time I went, the computers were cutting out every half hour or so, forcing people to log back in. It was pretty annoying, but I'm hoping that's not normal and can be addressed.

Xe Tuife: Still start looking outdoor around, but getting Better....

Patricia A McCarter: This is the best library in Santa Clara County. The staff offer more services to the public that are needed in these times. They have games and children services that help develope childrens minds, vaccines for pets, teach everyone of all ages computer skills and how to put signatures on documents using the computer, they will help you in the copy machine dept. They even have information they provide for the homeless. they even have language classes to learn a different language. There's not enough praise I have for this library and its unique staff that serve you with a smile..Dip I love and respect you. This community library is what this community needs its services are greatly needed and appreciated and needed. I love my Tully Library

Only negative is this, when the library is about to close, the staff will quickly flicker the lights off and on. People whom have sensory disorders, i.e., seizures, and other disorders of the nervous system. The flickering of the lights could inadvertently trigger these. As you have probably noticed I come in as the library is closing. But since the library stays open later this has not been that much of an issue .Anyway, I do so enjoy all of the libraries that I frequent, but the Edenvale branch is home🏡

Sonny Ng: . However, this should not put a negative light on this wonderful complex, which has a little of everything for all ages of local residents including a clean library chock full of books, media, print services , children section, etc., an adult fitness center and communal area for senior citizens! The staff are competent, friendly and professional__even gen Zingers. The staff do a wonderful job of keeping things quiet in the complex, particularly the library, warding off potential troublemakers and vagrants. However, this is a community center with public venues, so noises are expected. Love the quiet study area with all the nooks for peaceful study and remote work.
