The project will focus on creating a larger welcoming entry with a vehicular drop-off on Elk Street, a pedestrian path, and landscaping.
The park will feature a new expanded children's playground and new tennis courts. Additionally, there will be minor repairs to the Recreation Center and an exterior accessible restroom will be provided.
The park has a rich history dating back to the 1850s, with various uses including a personal ranch, a mini-amusement park, and an earthquake refugee camp. It became an official public recreation site in 1992.
The park is valued for its wild refuge in the city, featuring naturally forested slopes, native chert outcroppings, and wild flower growths, including important native species.
