San Francisco Jiu Jitsu Academy (SFBJJ): what do users think?

Michael Makarov: Amazing jiu jitsu school and the community. Recommend 100%.

SurvivalBayArea: I trained under Denny for something like 18 months ish and only left due to location. I love this school. On any given day you will receive very high level instruction, very effective jiu jitsu, compatible in the constantly changing modern jiu jitsu world. While I was there I trained kettle bells and gained 10 lbs of muscle. GAIIINS son!!! Last but not least Denny is a really, really fun guy and he cares deeply about his students Jimmy is also hilarious. Osssssssss

Ralph Baptista: Excellent Place to Roll, dropped in while on holiday, Denny and his team very welcoming. Recommend

Stefan Belanov: Dropped in for 2 classes during my vacation in San Francisco. Denny was very welcoming and all the guys there were very friendly. Denny is not only a very experienced grappler, he also teaches jiu jitsu with passion in a very pedagogical way. I will definitely visit again when i come back to San Fransisco!

Christopher Charles: Amazing!!!

Amanda Wilson: This is a good school and the owner, Kasey, has a positive outlook on life as well as a good understanding of how to properly deal with children. His daughter often helps out with the younger children as well. She is a patient and quick to smile. Both Coach Noel and Coach Andrew are very knowledgeable and highly skilled in JiuJitsu. If you have concerns or complaints I would encourage you directly contact the owner Kasey. Most likely he's already working on it.

Michael Palladino: A great school with a great vibe. I dropped by here this past June when I was in San Fran for a few days. Recently, I was back in San Fran for a tournament and ran into a bunch of the grapplers from here at the tourney. ALL of them said what's up and chatted it up a bit. I can't tell you how highly that made me feel about the quality of people that train at this school. Great people, Great Grappling! If you're looking for a place to train or if you're like me and find yourself in the area for a few days, you need to DEFINITLEY check this place out!

Michael Webber: Denny has been an on again, off again no gi coach for me since I attended an Eddie Bravo seminar in 2007 and he was Bravo's demonstration partner. You get good at what you do, and Denny has been exclusive no gi since belt - and he's Eddie's first black belt. I wish I hadn't devoted my time to the gi, because Denny's has mad details and teaching skills.Plus, his academy is supportive and friendly.Props!

Mehdi Medjaoui: Denis and his assistants are great teachers too, focusing on pedagogy and efficiency. Stay consistent.

ultra: Best jiu-jitsu in San Francisco

Alex Furman: your limit and you will come out healthier than when you came in.Ever since I've started training with Denny, I have made new friends, my game shot through the roof, and I'm enjoying jiu-jitsu more than I've ever had before. It doesn't get any better than this.

Dylan Peters: Awesome gym. Great people. Tight jiu jitsu.

Megan Caluza: Excellent place to learn jiu jitsu. Friendly staff, clean, well organized facility. Strong community feel with sister schools in San Mateo and Walnut Creek. I have been training here for more than three years, and will continue to train here as this place makes me feel welcome.

Nick Lee: , and the first thing I should mention is this:Denny has created a welcoming, friendly, and attentive space that is

Paul McDermott: I walked into 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu SF about 2 years ago and was welcomed like family. Denny is an exceptional teacher with a long history of success in the competition world. He is very detailed and patient with his students and is filled with years of experience. The new location is set up well with onsite showers and mats wall to wall. I recommend 10th Planet Jiu JItsu SF to everyone I talk to. 10PFL!!

Colhado Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy: what do users think?

Lawrence Arevalo: My family and I have been coming to Colhado for about 4 years now. The community at Colhado is great. Lots of fun, respectful people that like to roll hard. Lots of respect for each person and great instruction from Professor Matheus, Coach Jeff, and the rest of the black belts at Colhado. Our kids have also learned so much over the last few years and their confidence shows!

Max Souza: I would like to express my sincere appreciation for this wonderful jiu-jitsu community. It undoubtedly stands out as one of the finest in the city of San Francisco. The atmosphere is incredibly welcoming, and the instructors are highly skilled and dedicated. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone seeking an exceptional place to train and forge meaningful friendships.

marcos tirox: The best teacher

Izra777: I’ve being training for years and it’s one of my favorite places to go for self improvement

Micah Dulak: Great gym, friendly atmosphere, really good instruction. Whether you're looking to get in shape, learn self defense or have ambitions to start competing in jiu jitsu - this is a great place to train.

The Messy Monkey Family Channel: I feel so gratefull that I was introduced to jiu jitsu through professor Matheus Colhado, my JiuJitsu is awesome ☺️ and I feel strong and confident… The Colhado Gym community is very friendly!!

Alex Nguyen: I dropped in for a few weeks during a recent trip to SF. I was impressed by the degree of hands-on training and welcoming atmosphere. Matheus Colhado and his team, in addition to being highly skilled and accomplished, are some of the most approachable and down to earth people I’ve met. The mats are clean and street parking is surprisingly easy to find. Whether you’re starting BJJ or looking to improve your existing game, I would highly recommend checking out this gym.

Marty K: I started training BJJ under Coach Matheus back in 2017. From the very beginning I was greeted with a warm welcome not just from Matheus, but all the other long standing black belts and training partners. The coaching is top level and the atmosphere that’s been built there is geared towards developing the beginners as opposed to focusing solely on the colored belts. It has a nice mix of males and females with females only classes held weekly. This is also a great place to take your kids and give them the benefits of BJJ with the multiple lessons scheduled during the week. The jiu jitsu is top level, and you will leave each class on a high whether you spent the night getting tapped or caught a submission or two during the 30 mins of open mat at the end of each class.I have since relocated but I visit SF on an annual basis, and will always pay my first BJJ gym a visit to relish the same experience I had from the day I first started training there.Start your BJJ journey at Colhado BJJ, San Francisco, or make a switch to here if you want fun, friendship, a warm embrace and top level jiu jitsu served to you every time you walk through the front door.

Josh Bloom: My kids were training here while I was training elsewhere. After feeling the vibe at Colhado, I happily switched gyms myself and now I train here as much as I can.Matheus is a great instructor, he teaches the fundamentals and sprinkles in fun and exciting challenges, positional sparring, flow rolls, etc to keep you guessing and to keep training exciting. There's a really great crew of people here, all body types and skill levels, so come on by and learn something.

Sean Higginbottom: , has become something that has had a profound effect on my life.I was encouraged by my wife to try Jiu-Jitsu, and even though she hadn't gone to Colhado's at the time, her experience at her previous academy and what she heard/read about Colhado made her direct me here. Since then I have become the strongest I have ever been physically and mentally. I've been surrounded by amazing people with positive and supportive attitudes that encourage cyclical growth among us. And I have achieved what I wouldn't have imagined possible for myself.I am still a white belt at the time of writing this review, but have won 3 gold, and 1 silver medals through the World League tournaments. My wife now also attends Colhado's and competes alongside me. It has been a new bonding experience for us and I love it!I encourage anyone that wants to try Jiu-Jitsu to come here. We can help you grow just like everyone else continues to do for me.

Giovanna Martinez: Profesor Matheus is like no other, his classes are always fun, always learning something new, the most important thing for me as female is feeling safe and confident, training at Colhado provides that, love the sense of community and positive attitude of everyone, super friendly place, no bad energy, come and join us!

Frisco Ninja: teach us yoga for improved mobility. As a Father , as a Husband , as a working professional....it’s imperative to learn self defense and empower yourself - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be that vehicle. You’ve heard about it. You’ve read about it. You’ve seen it in the Mix Martial Arts

karmbir chima: I have been training with Matheus since 2014. After being in the jiu jitsu community for as long as I have, being comfortable in the gym is the most thing. This place provides that. This gym is welcoming and does not have a toxic atmosphere. You will find a good mix of people who have different motivations. If you are a weekend warrior who is looking to stay in shape or if you want to prepare for a tournament this is a great place to do that.

Alan Ng: I've been training at Colhado for the last 3 or so years. I've definitely seen improvement in my overall BJJ game. Its definitely a very welcoming place to be. The other classmates and Professor Matteus is very positive and uplifting. The school does host bbqs, picnics, and have charity fundraising events here and there. There is a sense of family and comradery training at this school.

Liliana Buitrago: are great people, it's a big family where you can feel like home. They are very professional, and well trained to teach you and support you, I've grown as a person here and that makes me very happy.I've trained in other places and i definitely can say that this is a high level academy, i've learned so much, and i'm so grateful for it.They are also amazing with the kids, my host kid is training there too, and he loves it, he has a lot of fun while he is learning all the different techniques, they are really good with the kids and adults.Highly recommended !!!!

corey moore: Wonderful place with great instructors. My son experienced some bullying at school before he started Jiu Jitsu now he protects his friends. I’m so greatful I can’t recommend this place enough.

Adriano Pappalardo: A cultural Experience you must try...It's not easy to find a high level gym that is also fun and pleasant.I enjoy visiting different gyms and its not easy to find a very difficult bunch of roles that you walk away from 'happily defeated'...I'm a half decent blue belt and I found some lady-blues that tied me up into a pretzel, so this tells me that the level is great, BUT it was never a bad energy tap or roll. The members seem to all be cultivated to have a real pleasant rolling nature even in their high level= this is very rare to find!No egos, all positives! The owner of the gym must be commended on creating a really great culture.I'm big on hygiene and it looks like they clean the mats before every class as its spotless and smells good. There is sanitizer all over, plasters and pretty much everything the germaphobe in you might need...It's not only the best gym in the world that I've experienced this far, but a real experience of authentic Brazilian Martial Arts culture, that has become a part of the San Francisco experiences you need to try.

WingChun Berkeley: what do users think?

Derek Wu: I've been taking classes here for a little over two years and I've only now thought to leave a review lol. As you might guess, I really like it here! Everybody, both the instructors and the other students, is really nice and supportive. The instructor, Yuka, is a great teacher and gives a lot of personal attention. She also does a great job accommodating people's preferences and abilities so that they get the most out of their time here. The studio's super clean - Yuka uses one of those cleaning robots before every class, and the mats all get wiped down with sanitizing spray after each use.Personally, I take these classes to train for self-defense, and I like that that's what it's focused on. We train for common self-defense scenarios and all of the techniques are very practical. However, this is also a great place to practice Wing Chun for both cultural and fitness reasons! Can't recommend it enough.

Manish Bhatt: Friendly group, I felt welcome and had fun. Parking is ok.

Trevino: I have been going for a 2 and half months now and I really enjoy the techniques. I also like how we get to practice the moves with each other and get to explore it more. Sije Yuka is also a very nice and a good teacher to learn from she really inspires me. The community is very nice and helpful. Overall I enjoy learning and being there.

Jose Luis Gray Sanchez (devBadgerJ): Been learning here for a year, then corona. Couldn't wait to return.Great teachers, practical learning, outstanding value.

Martin Castillo: Cool place to practice this art, they even let me use my own wing Chun with theirs which was really great experience to provide

Hatef Monajemi: . Their style is perhaps better described as ‘Okinawan Karate,’ which shares the same ancestor with WingChun, namely Fujian White Crane. I say this because WingChun emphasize softness whereas their style certainly emphasizes hardness. So, if you are looking for WingChun, this certainly isn’t a school of WingChun

Sabrina Italia: After doing a lot of research into the type of training I wanted my son to be involved in, I chose International Academy of Wing Chun. The philosophy is pretty simple and focuses on self-defense. I am impressed with how much the students take ownership and help the new students out. From the first class, you are hands on. I have peace of mind knowing that my son, who is almost 13, is becoming a part of this community. I highly recommend this school.

Ezio Auditorè: Wing chun

Ricky campos: I know Brando lee had visited your school before

Gabriel: Ill come back one day. Had a great time learning and is something I've always wanted to be a part of. Download the e-book on they're site and have insight into what IAW teaches and why.

S S: Fun, efficient, rewarding.

marco polo: Exactly what i was looking for... Joyal is a troll..
