User FAQs

There is **no fee** for parking. However, please note that there is no parking for school buses or chartered buses, and drop-offs and onboarding are only allowed.

The closest bus line is AC Transit #305, which runs only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. You can take AC Transit bus 59 or 59A from Lake Merritt BART, 19th Street BART, or Rockridge BART to the Montclair Transit Center, and then transfer to AC Transit bus 305. From there, exit at the stop on Colton Boulevard and Ridgewood Drive and walk 0.9 miles to the attraction.

The attraction has several trails, including the 31-mile **East Bay Skyline National Recreation Trail**, which traverses the preserve along the ridgeline. Other trails include **Round Top Road**, **Round Top Loop Trail**, **Volcanic Trail**, **Quarry Trail**, and **Pond Trail**. Most trails are suitable for hiking, and some are paved and wheelchair accessible.

Cattle grazing has been an important part of the ecosystem in the area for many decades, and is essential for removing hazardous vegetation to reduce wildfire risks and maintaining natural habitat for plants and wildlife. If you encounter cattle on the trails, approach slowly, speak normally, and allow them to move away. Please do not try to get close, touch, or pet them, especially if they have calves.

The attraction has an unstaffed visitor center with displays illustrating the geology of the area. You can also pick up a self-guided brochure at the staging area, which highlights the geological features of the preserve. **Round Top**, the highest point in the preserve, is a prominent feature and offers stunning views.
