Luis Vega: It’s truly difficult to convey in a short review how much U.S Vets has helped transform and improved my quality of life. A few years ago I walked into U.S. Vets felling hopeless, without a job and suffering from various medical conditions that I acquired during my military service in the U.S Army. I had lost my private medical insurance and was in serious need of medical help. When I had my first conversation with my rep she informed me that as a result of my military service that I qualified for medical services at the VA hospital. She went on to inform me of so many benefits that I actually did not believe her. The following is a list of things that U.S. Vets has successfully assisted me with: a job at LA Unified, medical insurance at VA, significant financial help as a result of helping me get an 80% disabled status, full tuition paid for both of my kids who attend universities, one of which just got accepted to UCLA law school, and another who just graduated from college and is about to become a teacher. There are many other things that U.S. Vets has helped me with but in short I was broken and disillusioned and now I’m thriving and filled with hope and confidence. Harvey, my Veteran Talent Specialist, has been accommodating and responsive to my request. As a result, he contacts me at least three times per week by email or text and culminates with a voice call weekly. In addition, he is skilled in resume and cover letter review, also recommending edits as necessary.Of all of the Veterans job assistance organizations that I have used, U.S. Vets is unmatched. The job listing that Malcolm has provided has been directly aligned with my skills, qualifications, and career goals.

Malcolm Harvey: Since my naval career ended, I have experienced significant challenges in securing gainful employment. I had difficulty transitioning from combatant to civilian. Serving as a sonar technician during my naval career and specializing in identifying and classifying Russian submarines did not translate to many options in the private sector. However, after educating and re-inventing myself, I pursued roles within the professional social work sphere but had trouble finding my ideal position. At this point in my life/career, I wanted to do something that I love and work with people I really enjoy interacting with. The encouragement and support I received from the staff at U.S. VETS Los Angeles helped me secure a role that I look forward to every day. I received enormous help from Antonio Casasola and Jennifer Delatte with my resume, interview preparation, job leads, updating my LinkedIn account, career fairs, networking hours, weekly one-on-one check ins, etc. I cannot say enough about the exceptional services I received from the CDI program.
