I had an anomalous coronary artery running through my heart wall that was majorly compressed causing major chest pain, fatigued, etc. for almost a year that was discovered 4 years ago. It was a congenital defect no one knew about because I never had any symptoms growing up. 3 days later he operated on me and 4 years later to present day I'm doing amazing. 28 years old now. Nancy Redding: My son, Scott, was born in 1983 he was a twin and was born with hypoplastic left heart, double outlet right ventricle and several other less severe defects..some of which allowed blood flow between the ventricles and lungs..at 1 month he had a blalock taussig shunt which improved his oxygenation enough to wait until he was 5 for a more permanent “fix” this is when we met Dr Laks at UCLA Medical Center. It’s been many years but I remember thinking he reminded me of Roddy McDowell..I know he didn’t but that’s what I think of when I think back. Soft spoken with an accent Scott was at ease with him when they met. A couple of days later Dr Laks performed a Fontan procedure and a pacemaker was inserted. I brought Scotty home 2 weeks later and for the first time the grey dusky color was gone and my young man was a beautiful pink! Scott lived a completely normal life with very few restrictions! Played basketball and took karate lessons he was active and for the most part normal with a weird sense of humor that only he and his twin fully understood. Scott lived to be 11 at a time when it was rare for these children to make it out of the hospital after birth. I give all the credit to Dr Laks for my sons normal childhood, we are so grateful to have been blessed with time. God Bless you Dr Laks

He said know it's his turn to take care of her. He did complete repair Julie is now 33 years old. Still small at 4ft 11 and hardly 100lbs she is my life I owe everything to this brilliant man.
