This ecological reserve features a variety of **habitats**, including **open water**, **mudflats**, **salt marsh**, **coastal dunes**, **seabird nesting islands**, **riparian**, and **freshwater marsh**.
This ecological reserve is home to over **200 avian species**, as well as **land mammals** such as **coyote**, **raccoon**, and **deer mice**, **reptiles** like **California legless lizard** and **Southern Pacific rattlesnake**, and **marine life** including **California sea lion** and **green sea turtle**.
Visitors can enjoy a **4-mile network of public hiking trails**, including **scenic overlooks**, as well as an **interpretive center** operated by the conservancy. **Free docent-led tours** are also available, and each parking lot features a **bulletin board** with information.
This ecological reserve is home to a variety of **plants**, including **rushes**, **bulrushes**, **sedges**, **California sage**, and **coyote bush**, as well as **rare and endangered plants** like **California seablite** and **red sand verbena**.
